The Lamar Cardinals will host the Mississippi College Choctaws in 2020 and play at the SMU Mustangs in 2022, FBSchedules.com has learned.

Copies of both game contracts were obtained from Lamar University via a state public information request.

Lamar will host Mississippi College at Provost Umphrey Stadium in Beaumont, Texas, on Sept. 5, 2020. Lamar will pay Mississippi College a $65,000 guarantee for the game, according to the copy of the contract.

Lamar and Mississippi College have met twice on the gridiron, both times in Beaumont, and the series is tied at one game apiece. Mississippi College won the first meeting 16-14 in 1988, and then Lamar evened the series with a 55-10 victory in 2014.

Mississippi College is a member of the Gulf South Conference in Division II. The Choctaws finished the 2018 season 3-7 overall and 1-6 in conference play.

Mississippi College is the second non-conference opponent for Lamar in 2020. The Cardinals are also scheduled to play at Rice on Sept, 26 that season.

Lamar will travel to take on the SMU Mustangs at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas, Texas, on Sept. 10, 2022. The Cardinals will receive a $350,000 guarantee for the game, per the contract copy.

The 2022 contest will be the first-ever meeting between Lamar and SMU on the gridiron.

SMU is the first non-conference opponent for Lamar’s 2022 non-conference schedule.

The Mustangs now have two non-conference opponents scheduled for the 2022 season. SMU is currently scheduled to open the 2022 season at North Texas on Sept. 3.
