The Iowa State Cyclones have added the South Dakota State Jackrabbits to their 2027 football schedule, FBSchedules.com has learned.

A copy of the football game contract was obtained from South Dakota State University via a state public records request.

Iowa State will host South Dakota State at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa, on Sept. 4, 2027. The Cyclones will pay the Jackrabbits a $550,000 guarantee for the game, according to the copy of the contract.

Iowa State and South Dakota State first met on the gridiron in 1952 and have played three times overall. The Cyclones defeated the Jackrabbits in all three contests, most recently in 2008, 44-17.

South Dakota State is a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Jackrabbits won the MVFC championship in 2016 and have advanced to the FCS Playoffs in every season since 2012.

Iowa State now has two scheduled non-conference opponents for the 2027 season. The Cyclones are also scheduled to play at Bowling Green on Sept. 18, which is the second game of a home-and-home series that begins in Ames in 2026.

South Dakota State is the seventh scheduled game for Iowa State against a team from the FCS. The Cyclones are scheduled to host South Dakota in 2020 and 2025, Northern Iowa in 2021 and 2023, Southeast Missouri in 2022, and North Dakota in 2024.

Iowa State is the first scheduled non-conference opponent for South Dakota State in 2027.

The Jackrabbits have six other contests scheduled against opponents from the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). South Dakota State is scheduled to play at Nebraska three times (2020, 2028, and 2029), at Colorado State in 2021, at Iowa in 2022, and at Northwestern in 2026.
