By Kevin Kelley -

The Iowa Hawkeyes and the Iowa State Cyclones have extended their football series through the 2021 season, both schools announced this afternoon.

Iowa will host Iowa State at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City on Sept. 8, 2018 and again on Sept. 12, 2020. The Cyclones will play host to the Hawkeyes at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames on Sept. 14, 2019 and Sept. 11, 2021.

“We are pleased to have the contract extended through the 2021 season,” said Iowa Director of Athletics Gary Barta. “In-state rivalries are an exciting part of college athletics, and you can feel a different energy across the state during the week of the Hawkeye-Cyclone matchup.”

Iowa and Iowa State have met 61 times since 1894. In 1977, they began playing for the Cy-Hawk Trophy. The trophy is currently possessed by Iowa after they beat Iowa State 27-21 earlier this season.

“We are excited to extend our contract with the University of Iowa in football through the 2021 season,” Iowa State Athletics Director Jamie Pollard said. “This game is very important to the residents of this state and I am pleased both institutions are committed to continuing the rivalry. Rivalry games are great for college football.”

Good to see rivals from different conferences can play each other. ACC-SEC rivals have no problem doing this either but Texas and Kansas can’t find a way to play Texas A&M and Mizzou. Don’t give me that they left the Big 12 stuff. Georgia Tech left the SEC yet Georgia stills plays them. It can be done!

I agree. I hate it when schools give the “well we’re in different conferences so we can’t play each other” BS. It makes them look even dumber that the southern schools and schools like Iowa-Iowa St still make it work.

Wait tilk 2018, then will West Virginiat move back to an east cost conference, flying your football and basketball teams to the mid-west is very expensive.

You would think Missouri would be banging down Kansas’ door to play. It’s a free win!

Rivalries that should be yearly that don’t happen no more….

Notre Dame/Michigan (ending)

Don’t forget BYU/Utah. BYU wants to continue the annual rivalry, but Utah only wants to play it occasionally.

Let’s not also forget notre dame michigan state, notre dame miami, georgia clemson, and auburn georgia tech

did you see that block jake long missed that tore sam bradfords acl, their season is over, cut long now, he is not an nfl caliber player, he is not worth the veteren minimum, looks like st. louis will be in the market for you brandon scherff, when you get to meet the team make sure jake long is listening and tell them theres a new scherff in town, and dont be a statue have one made after you
