The Indiana State Sycamores and the Montana Grizzlies have scheduled a home-and-home football series for 2022 and 2025, both schools have announced.

In the first game of the series, Indiana State will host Montana at Memorial Stadium in Terre Haute, Ind., on Sept. 17, 2022. The series will conclude with the Sycamores returning the trip to take on the Grizzlies at Washington-Grizzly Stadium in Missoula, Mont., on Sept. 20, 2025.

“This series is a great opportunity for us to play a top-quality team outside of the Missouri Valley Football Conference, providing our fan base exciting new opportunities during the regular season,” Indiana State Director of Athletics Sherard Clinkscales said. “Montana is a tremendous football program that is ranked in the Top-25 on a regular basis, and the chance to play this type of competition only makes our program stronger while helping us reach our goal of the FCS Playoffs.”

The 2022 matchup between Indiana State of the Missouri Valley Football Conference and Montana of the Big Sky Conference will mark the first time the two schools have squared off on the gridiron.

Indiana State now has two of their three non-conference contests scheduled for the 2022 season. The Sycamores are also scheduled to play at Purdue on Sept. 10.

Montana is the third non-conference opponent for Indiana State in 2025, which is an optional 12-game season for FCS teams. The Sycamores, scheduled to host Eastern Illinois on Sept. 6 and play at Indiana on Sept. 13, can add one additional opponent.

“It is always great when we can add a Missouri Valley Football Conference team to the schedule,” said Montana director of athletics Kent Haslam. “Plus, we are excited to welcome another FCS team making their first trip to Missoula.”

Montana also has two scheduled non-conference opponents in 2022 and three in 2025. In 2022, the Griz are scheduled to host South Dakota on Sept. 10. Scheduled matchups in 2025 include Western Carolina on the road on Aug. 30 and North Dakota at home on Sept. 13.
