Harvard has canceled its future road game against St. Thomas, ending a previously announced home‑and‑home series between the two programs, according to an official announcement Thursday.
The Crimson and Tommies began the agreement on Sept. 16, 2023, when the two teams met in Cambridge, Mass. Harvard won that matchup 45–13, marking the first-ever meeting between the schools and the front end of the two‑game contract.
The return trip was scheduled for Sept. 15, 2029, at O’Shaughnessy Stadium in Saint Paul, Minn. However, St. Thomas stated that “Harvard administration informed St. Thomas Athletics this summer that it would opt out of the agreement and would not make the scheduled return trip to St. Paul.”
When the series was originally announced in 2022, St. Thomas head coach Glenn Caruso praised the opportunity, saying the home‑and‑home would showcase “two programs that take both education and football very seriously at the FCS level,” while highlighting the appeal of playing in Boston and the Twin Cities.
Contract details for the series were never publicly released, but it is likely Harvard will owe St. Thomas a cancellation fee—standard practice for non‑conference agreements that are terminated unilaterally.
With Harvard’s withdrawal, both programs now find themselves without any publicly announced non‑conference opponents for the 2029 season, leaving significant scheduling work ahead as they rebuild their future slates.
