Fresno State adds Sacramento State to 2027 football schedule

By Kevin Kelley -

The Fresno State Bulldogs have added the Sacramento State Hornets to their 2027 football schedule, FBSchedules.com has learned.

Fresno State had originally been slated to host San Jose State on September 25, 2027, but that matchup has been pushed to the 2035 season. The shift created an opening in the Bulldogs’ non‑conference slate for next year.

Details of the scheduling changes were outlined in a contract amendment obtained from San Jose State University via a state public records request. The amendment reflects a broader, three‑team agreement involving Sacramento State, with the following adjustments — some of which had been previously reported:

  • San Jose State will play at Sacramento State on September 25, 2027
  • Sacramento State will replace San Jose State and visit Fresno State on September 18, 2027
  • Sacramento State will play at San Jose State on September 11, 2032
  • San Jose State will play at Fresno State on September 8, 2035

The only newly uncovered game among the four is Fresno State hosting Sacramento State on September 18, 2027. That contest will be played at Bulldog Stadium in Fresno, Calif.

With Sacramento State now officially added, Fresno State has all four opponents locked in for its 2027 non‑conference schedule. The Bulldogs open the season on Aug. 28 against Utah Tech before traveling to Washington on Sept. 4 and Rice on Sept. 11.

Sacramento State, currently competing in its first season at the FBS level, also has four non‑conference opponents set for next year. The Hornets open at California on Aug. 28, visit North Dakota State on Sept. 11, and host San Jose State on Sept. 25.
