The Delaware State Hornets will host the Delaware Blue Hens for the first time ever in the Spring of 2021, DSU has announced.

Delaware State will host Delaware at Alumni Stadium in Dover, Del., on Saturday, April 10, 2021. The game will mark the 10th overall meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.

“It’s great for DSU and the Hornets to compete against the University of Delaware at our Alumni Stadium home for the first time in the history of the series,” said DSU Director of Athletics Dr. D. Scott Gines. “With the women’s and men’s basketball home games against the Blue Hens this December, our teams will be hosting their First State rivals in three consecutive showcase events in a four-month period.”

Delaware State and Delaware first met on the gridiron in 2007. In their most recent matchup in 2019, the Blue hens defeated the Hornets 31-13 to improve their record in the series to 9-0.

According to the release, Delaware State will return the Spring 2021 game by traveling to take on the Blue Hens at Delaware Stadium in Newark, Del., on Sept. 10, 2022.

Due to the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, all Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) conferences postponed their fall 2020 football schedules. Delaware State is currently scheduled to begin their season on Saturday, Feb. 20 at Norfolk State, but that could change due to some members opting out of play after the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) schedule was released.

Delaware, a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), is slated to kickoff their Spring schedule on Saturday, March 6 at home against the Maine Black Bears.
