The Cincinnati Bearcats have added the Austin Peay Governors to their 2017 football schedule, FBSchedules.com has learned.
Cincinnati will host Austin Peay at Nippert Stadium on Sept. 2, 2017. The season-opening game will earn Austin Peay a $375,000 guarantee, according to a copy of the contract obtained via an open records request.
The Bearcats and Governors have met five times on the gridiron and each game was played in Cincinnati. UC extended their lead in the series to 5-0 after a 72-10 drubbing in 2011.
Austin Peay is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision. The Governors are 0-4 this season and 1-27 in three seasons under head coach Kirby Cannon.
The addition of Austin Peay gives Cincinnati three non-conference games for the 2017 season. UC is also slated to travel to Michigan on Sept. 9 and Miami (OH) on Sept. 16.
Cincinnati now only needs one game in both 2017 and 2018 to complete their non-conference schedules through the 2020 season.
Back in June, UCLA announced a home-and-home football series with Cincinnati. The Bearcats will play at the Rose Bowl on Sept. 1, 2018 and will then host the Bruins on Aug, 31, 2019.
For the Cincy fans sake I hope it’s a home and home with a P5 for those years.
