Chattanooga adds Austin Peay, Jacksonville State to future football schedules

The Chattanooga Mocs have added the Austin Peay Governors and the Jacksonville State Gamecocks to their future football schedules, per the Mocs’ 2020 football media guide.

Chattanooga and Austin Peay will play a home-and-home series that will begin with the Mocs hosting the Governors at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021. The series will conclude with Chattanooga traveling to face Austin Peay at Fortera Stadium in Clarksville, Tenn., on Nov. 23, 2024.

Chattanooga and Austin Peay first met on the gridiron in 1959 and the two schools have played a total of six contests. The Mocs currently lead the overall series 6-0.

With the addition of Austin Peay, Chattanooga has completed their non-conference slate for the fall of 2021. The Mocs are also scheduled to play at North Alabama on Sept. 11 and at Kentucky on Sept. 18.

Austin Peay has also completed their non-conference schedule for the fall 2021 season. The Governors’ other opponents include Ole Miss on the road on Sept. 11 and Morehead State at home on Sept. 18.

The Jacksonville State Gamecocks will travel to take on Chattanooga at Finley Stadium on Sept. 9, 2023. The game will mark the 41st gridiron meeting between the two schools.

It’s not clear if the 2023 contest is a single-game or part of a home-and-home series. No other Chattanooga-JSU contests are listed through the 2024 season in the Mocs’ football media guide.

Chattanooga and Jacksonville State first met on the gridiron in 1904. The Gamecocks have defeated the Mocs in six consecutive contests between 2012 through 2019, but the Mocs still lead the overall series 26-14.
