The BYU Cougars and the Virginia Cavaliers have added two additional games to their future football series.
BYU will travel to face Virginia at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville on Sept. 7, 2019. The Cavaliers will then travel to face the Cougars at LaVell Stadium in Provo on Sept. 19, 2020.
Back in November, the two schools announced a home-and-home series that is scheduled for Aug. 31, 2013 in Charlottesville and Sept. 20, 2014 in Provo.
“The extension of the series with BYU is a result of our efforts to adjust our non-conference schedule in 2013,” said Virginia athletic director Jon Oliver. “We look forward to the four-game series against a quality football program with a proven track record of success.”
In their last meeting in 2000, BYU defeated Virginia 38-35 in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers were victorious in the other two meetings, 22-16 in the 1987 All-American Bowl and 45-40 in Provo in 1999.
Today’s announcement gives BYU and Virginia a total of four match-ups through 2020:
- Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013 – Charlottesville, Va.
- Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014 – Provo, Utah
- Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019 – Charlottesville, Va.
- Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020 – Provo, Utah
Football Schedules
UVA is moving the BYU game to an 6pm Kickoff EST on Friday, August 31st to be broadcast live on ESPN. UVA has been informed there will be a double header that night with the late game being 9pm EST being SMU @ Texas Tech. Unlike previous years, ESPN is making a major push to get “name” teams to play other “name” teams in the first weekend instead of 1AA’s.
Check out the first football weekend
Thursday, August 29th UNC vs South Carolina / Ole Miss vs Vandy
Friday, August 30th UVA vs BYU / SMU vs Texas Tech
Saturday, August 31st UGA vs Clemson / TCU vs LSU
It is not 6 PM EST; It is 6 PM EDT
August 31st is a saturday
Thank you for the corrections.
UVA will host BYU on Friday night, August 30th (EDT) on ESPN
All of the UVA and BYU schedules say that they play on Saturday not Friday. What website did you see that on cause I’m a UVA fan and it would be awesome to go to a Friday night game. But what website did u see it on?
Show up at 3:30 EDT Saturday
I like the news is the story.
I like the news in the first comment.
What else?
Sorry to add to the Confusion, but SMU vs Texas Tech will have to be on ESPN2 that night. (Not that there is anything wrong with that)
Cal is already making arrangements to move the game with Northwestern to Friday, August 31st @ 7pm Pacific / 10pm EST that night.
If ESPN has the choice, they will take Cal and Northwestern over SMU and Texas Tech everytime.
Actually game time is 7pm Pacific / 10pm EDT.
According to their website, the PAC12 would have first rights to pick up the game.
?
The comment must be regarding the Cal-Northwestern game. Yes, the game of the year.
According to Tom Holmoe, this isn’t an extension of the current series. this is a 2nd separate series. Funny how the 2 AD’s classify it as different things.
I don’t think it matters in this case. It’s not a 2-for-1 in disguise or anything like that.
I want to see a replay of Okla. State vs. Savannah St.
Who is Savannah State – BYU or Virginia?
We will find out on August 30th on National TV.
But if it is my Cavs looking like Savannah State at the end of the night, I will be forced to root for Tech and the Beamers. (JK)
We should have enough pieces to get into the ACC Championship game this year, I am hoping our off season coaching moves will make the difference.
