Austin Peay, Southern Illinois schedule football series for 2023, 2024

By Kevin Kelley -

The Austin Peay Governors and the Southern Illinois Salukis have scheduled a home-and-home football series for 2023 and 2024, APSU Director of Athletics Gerald Harrison announced.

In the first game of the series, Austin Peay will travel to take on Southern Illinois at Saluki Stadium in Carbondale, Ill., on September 2, 2023. The Governors will host the Salukis the following season at Fortera Stadium in Clarksville, Tenn., on September 7, 2024.

“Soon after arriving at Austin Peay we decided to take a deep dive into our future football schedules,” said Harrison. “Two of our scheduling objectives include seeking opportunities to play quality regional opponents that allow our loyal supporters to follow the Govs and unique opportunities like nontraditional dates. By agreeing to play Southern Illinois in a home-and-home series and Western Kentucky on Week 0 we have accomplished both of these goals.”

Austin Peay is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC), while Southern Illinois plays in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, both in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).

Austin Peay and Southern Illinois first met on the gridiron in 1938 and have played seven times overall. The Salukis won the most recent meeting 37-7 in 1992 and currently lead the series 5-2.
