Auburn adds Akron to 2021 football schedule

The Auburn Tigers have added the Akron Zips to their 2021 football schedule, both schools announced on Thursday.

Auburn will host Akron at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Sept. 4, 2021. The game will be only the second meeting between the two schools following a 42-0 Auburn win back on October 15, 1988 in Auburn.

The addition of Akron tentatively completes Auburn’s non-conference football schedule for the 2021 season. The Tigers are also scheduled to play at Penn State on Sept. 18, host Georgia State on Sept. 25, and host Alabama State on Nov. 20.

In SEC action in 2021, Auburn is scheduled to host Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss and play at Arkansas, LSU, South Carolina, and Texas A&M.

“We are very excited to take on one of the iconic football programs in college athletics,” said Akron Director of Athletics Larry Williams.

“What a great opportunity for our young men to travel to Auburn,” said Akron first-year head coach Tom Arth. “Auburn is one of the premiere teams in the SEC. We look forward to the challenge.”

Akron has also tentatively completed their non-conference schedule for the 2021 season. The Zips are also slated to host Temple on Sept. 11 and travel to both Kentucky (Sept. 18) and Ohio State (Sept. 25).
