The South Carolina Gamecocks and Bowling Green Falcons have set the date for their football game in 2028, FBSchedules.com has learned.
South Carolina announced in May that it would host Bowling Green during the 2028 season at Williams–Brice Stadium in Columbia, S.C., with the game date listed as to be determined. However, a copy of the original game contract obtained from Bowling Green State University (BGSU) through an open‑records request shows the matchup was initially scheduled for September 2, 2028.
An amendment to that contract, also obtained from BGSU by FBSchedules.com, confirms that South Carolina and Bowling Green agreed this month to move the contest up one week to August 26, 2028. That date falls on the weekend preceding Labor Day—commonly known as Week Zero—which next season becomes the official opening weekend (Week 1) for both FBS and FCS programs.
Bowling Green will receive $1.1 million for the trip to Columbia, marking the Falcons’ first-ever meeting with the Gamecocks.
Following the 2028 opener against Bowling Green, South Carolina is expected to face an SEC opponent on September 2 before hosting FCS Wofford on September 9. The Gamecocks close their three-game non‑conference slate with a road trip to in-state rival Clemson on November 25.
Bowling Green’s 2028 non‑conference schedule currently features two additional road games—Minnesota on Sept. 8 and South Alabama on Sept. 16. Its final non-conference game will likely be an FCS opponent at home.
