The Miami (Ohio) RedHawks have announced their 2025 non-conference football schedule, which features the addition of games against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and UNLV Rebels.
Miami will travel to face Rutgers at SHI Stadium in Piscataway, N.J. on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025. The game will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
The game at Rutgers was added as a result of Miami canceling future road contests at Cincinnati’s Nippert Stadium in 2025 and 2028. Those games were canceled last year, according to a report from Bearcat Journal.
After Miami canceled those two games, Cincinnati reportedly responded by canceling the games at Miami’s Yager Stadium in Oxford, Ohio, that were slated for the 2027 and 2029 seasons.
Miami is still scheduled to host Cincinnati this season on Sept. 14, and the two schools will also meet at Paycor Stadium, the home of the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals, on Sept. 19, 2026.
“We are excited to once again offer our fans six home games for the 2025 season,” said David Sayler, Miami’s Director of Athletics. “Fans will undoubtedly notice no game with Cincinnati on the 2025 schedule, however we look forward to squaring off against them in 2026 on a neutral field. I am optimistic, based on some preliminary conversations, that we will continue to play into the future and look forward to working with the UC Administration to make that happen.”
The RedHawks have also added a home contest against the UNLV Rebels that is scheduled for Sept. 20, 2025. The game is likely part of a home-and-home series.
UNLV replaces a home game against the Missouri Tigers on Miami’s 2025 slate. It’s currently unclear why the Missouri-Miami game was canceled, but most likely it’s due to the Tigers wanting to add an additional home game. If Missouri in fact canceled the game, it would owe Miami a $1 million cancellation fee, according to the copy of the contract that was signed back in 2016.
Miami will open its 2025 slate on the road against the Wisconsin Badgers on Aug. 30. The RedHawks are also scheduled to host the Lindenwood Lions on Sept. 27.
UPDATE (July 29, 2024)
Per Miami sports communications, Missouri canceled the game at Miami in 2025 and will pay the RedHawks a $750,000 cancellation fee. Additionally, Miami will return the newly scheduled game against UNLV during the 2032 season.
UPDATE (Aug. 6, 2024)
According to a copy of a letter sent from Cincinnati to Miami that is dated February 27, 2024, Miami canceled the games in 2025 and 2028 via a letter sent on July 31, 2023. By way of the Feb. 27, 2024 letter, Cincinnati canceled the 2029 contest.
Since the cancellation fees for the 2028 and 2029 games are the same ($100,000), the two schools mutually agreed to waive the fees. For the 2025 game, Miami is obligated to pay Cincinnati a cancellation fee of $500,000.
Further, the letter states that the games scheduled for September 14, 2024 (at Miami), September 19, 2026 (at Paycor Stadium), and September 11, 2027 (at Miami) will be played as scheduled. The two schools also intend to discuss a new agreement to play in 2028, per the letter.

Looks like Missouri and Cincy need to square off on 9/20/25.
Good for Cincinnati. They need to start playing Ohio State every year. Being in the Big 12, having the same G5 opponent on the schedule year after year is very damaging.
Why would Cincinnati need to cancel the Miami series to play OSU? Most P4 schools with 9 game conference games are scheduling 1 FCS, 1 G5, and 1 P4. Cincinnati needs to also reduce its travel expenses given the expanded XII conference travel and having the Miami series addresses the G5 and travel topics as well.
The only way the series cancelation make sense is if Miami was asking for more money than another G5 would ask. In either case, it’s a bad look for both ADs destroying an over century old rivalry when it didn’t need to be canceled.
To Z-Man Cincinnati would be excellent for Ohio State in it’s yearly power four match up however expect more cupcake games with power four teams now with more traveling involved during conference play.
Doesn’t Ohio State have to be willing to schedule Cincinnati for this to happen?
How often and how recently have these two juggernauts squared off?
We need more P4-P4 OOC games though. There aren’t enough of them.
@Z-Man The only way we’re going to see more P4 vs P4 OOC games is in a closed system that excludes G5 from the CFP.
Z-Man is a big crybaby & very selfish person
Z-Man is a big crybaby & very selfish person
Z-Man is a big crybaby & very selfish person
Z-Man is a big crybaby & very selfish person
Z-Man is a big crybaby & very selfish person
Z-Man is a big crybaby & very selfish person
Additional P4-P4 OOC games would be damaging, unhealthy & extremely unfair for College Football.
Having two cupcake games FCS & G5 & one P4 is excellent enough for example:
Northwestern Wildcats: North Dakota Hawks,Toledo Rockets & Kansas State Wildcats.
Illinois Fighting Illini: SE Missouri State Redhawks,Utah State Aggies & Louisville Cardinals.
Michigan Wolverines: Eastern Michigan Eagles,San Diego State Aztecs & Alabama Crimson Tide.
Rakow stop being an ass to Z-man. Just stop.
Every post he makes you come along and havre to be a jerk.
It’s tiresome.
I like Z-Man very much unfortunately he enjoys aggravating everybody including me want to control College Football & main thing I like to aggravate him because he argues constantly & trying to get his attention & sadly he is acting like a little child & he is having a very hard time adjusting to changes in college football & Z-Man needs to accept changes not to trash them & I pray & hope that Z-Man is a very changed person & hopefully be a nicer person instead pouncing at others.
You called him a crybaby and selfish after he didn’t say anything to you.
If anyone is a crybaby and selfish, it’s you. Either post about the story or shut up. Your opinion is just that… your opinion. Nobody cares what you “114%” think. Z-man is entitled to his opinion as much as you are yours… but increasingly your posts are just attacks on everyone else’s opinions and it’s got to stop.
I greatly apologies for saying Crybaby & selfish to Z-Man however he get very upset easily when things do not go his way like Michigan-Ohio State are not playing a night game & he says that night games are better than days games & he does not think of other College Football Fans except for himself.
I am working on posts that I do not like from Z-Man that I will disregard whether decreasing conference games, increasing OOC games, increasing P4 OOC games,Big Ten force to play on Friday evening & College Football play on Thanksgiving.
Main reason for attacks that Z-Man complains way, way, way too much & he is having a rough time with all changes in College Football & despite being rough on him I tried my very best to encourage him to accept upside down world of College Football & actually I really feel bad for him.
I can say one thing there are no perfect posts at fbschedules.com & we all take are chances to post no matter if it good or bad.
I accept criticism & this whole thing will be in rear view mirror.
You can’t even apologize without being a jerk.
If he thinks Michigan and Ohio State should be a night game, fine. It’s HIS opinion. He’s entitled to it, just like you are entitled to you ridiculous opinions.
In this thread he never even commented on your opinion and you make a post calling him selfish and a crybaby. You clearly want him to argue with you… and he’s not taking the bait. But it’s time someone called you on your behavior.
In fact, I don’t know if anyone can be banned from this forum, but if so, it should definitely be you.
I would like that, but now that Cincinnati is in a power conference, Ohio State would have to come to Cincinnati and that is unlikely. Sad, but the truth
Cincinnati can play their home games against OSU at Paycor Stadium
Notre Dame-USC will be next rivalry to go.
No it won’t. Unlike Cincy-Miami it is a battle of two storied power 4 programs. ND and USC would be crazy to cancel their series.
Z-Man please forgive me I am not being mean about Notre Dame-USC main reason I am 50-50 on future of it because with now USC part of Big Ten plus USC is one that does not want to play Notre Dame plus USC already have lots & lots & lots of traveling to do & last thing I want to see with UCLA is being shipwrecked on Gilligan’s Island during Thanksgiving Weekend & Cal is not an option however Cal would fit nicely in September.
UCLA-USC is a MUST,MUST on Thanksgiving weekend EVERY YEAR & not just odd number years & would be a huge WIN,WIN for CFB Fans throughout Los Angeles area & L.A. needs be together NOT divided.
Z-Man you really need to respect other people opinions including me especially UCLA-USC play every Thanksgiving,Notre Dame-USC play in September or discontinue series & SEC going to nine game conference three OOC schedule.
Your big problem is that you have 50 obscured ideas for College Football & your making it very unfair for this web page many of them including me that your post does not make sense at all.
You need to corporate if you want to be part of fbschedule & really care about you Z-Man.
Yes Gilligan’s Island is Dan Rakow favorite classic TV show.
Personally, the ND-USC doesn’t do a lot for me, but I think it stays. Lincoln Riley is the whiner here. He’s afraid to play the game. College football teams would rather be 4-0 with wins over three G5 schools and a FCS school that take a loss. I thought the expanded CFP would encourage games like these to remain on the schedule.
To John Rush Frugele I am a Fan of uncertainty of Notre Dame-USC rivalry & I really would like to see UCLA-USC play every Thanksgiving weekend not just odd number years also I am a Fan of Big Ten playing all conference games during Thanksgiving period especially Northwestern-Illinois & Michigan-Ohio State.
Should Notre Dame play on Thanksgiving Weekend in 2026 I would like UCLA at Oregon & Washington State at Washington (Apple Cup) also play too.
The USC UCLA doesn’t need to be Thanksgiving weekend every year. Since the 1920s, Notre Dame has hosted USC in October and USC hosts Irish on Thanksgiving Saturday. No need to change this
UCLA USC doesn’t move the needle
To John Furgele as long Notre Dame-USC plays on Thanksgiving weekend during even number years I would like to see Big Ten western teams to alternate for example:
2024(this year) Fresno State at UCLA Washington at Oregon
2026 UCLA at Oregon Wahington State at Washington (Apple Cup)
2028 UCLA at Wahington Oregon at Utah State
Have a safe & happy day John
Okay, now. Don’t make me come over there…..
Listen Keeper I doing My very best to help Z-Man I want him act like a mature adult instead of being a crybaby.
Somehow Miami cancelling two games @ Cincinnati doesn’t seem prudent for a MAC school to do. There HAS to be more to it
Miami doesn’t receive any money for these away games from UC. They need the revenue so I believe they are looking for a payday. UC doesn’t receive anything from Miami for games in Oxford either.
I made official decision & it’s very easy decision I will NO LONGER reply to Z-Man posts & to Z-Man I greatly appreciate that you please stop replying to Dan Rakow posts I really want this very turbulent relationship between You Z-Man & Myself Dan Rakow come to a big time complete END.
Most of other people excluding Z-Man I have a excellent relationship when i make reply to their posts & I welcome any reply to My posts as long it done in a respectful & positive manner regardless of agreement or disagreement and My #1 goal is to have a excellent relationship with people at fbschedule.com.
Just want to let you know Crybaby,Selfish & Jerky posts that was signal that I wanted no part of Z-Man which fortunately ended bitterly disappointed relationship between Z-Man & Dan Rakow & there were no apology between us & yes Dan is celebrating the divorce & I feel more relieved & happy that War is over.
Good News I will accept everybody’s post whether I like it or not & will be fair to anyone who disagree with me or anybody else & I’m blessed & happy that I got to learn my lesson.
Also I officially divorce Z-Man I am NOT disappointed at all.
Thank you for your kindly corporation & have a safe & happy everybody.
Can we put an end to the childish insults please? Thanks.
I’m very blessed & happy this childish insult is over by My decision & celebrating divorce between Me & Z-Man.
Thank you very much for Your concerns & promise I will act like an Adult.
I have nothing to apology for & I definitely leave Z-Man alone.
No more Victory Bell Game
No more battle between Dan Rakow & Z-man Yaaaaaaaay
Cincinnati must play in-state foe Ohio State as its annual Power Four game and Miami (Ohio) for the Victory Bell as its annual Group of Five game every year. Its third non-conference game must be against a P4 team in even years and a G5 team in odd years. No more FCS teams, period! This is the best-case scenario for the Bearcats IMO. #cincyFB
I have zero issues with Power Four teams hosting FCS opponent like Northwestern Wildcats vs North Dakota Hawks & Illinois Fighting Illini vs Southeast Missouri State Redhawks.
As a Michigan Wolverines Fan I have zero issues that they have not played a FCS opponent in long time however I like Michigan playing two OOC cupcake games like Eastern Michigan Eagles & San Diego State Aztecs.
