2024 SEC football schedule announced

The 2024 SEC football schedule was officially announced on Wednesday. Conference play kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 7 with South Carolina at Kentucky.

The 2024 season will be the first for the SEC as a 16-team league with the addition of the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns. SEC teams will again play an eight-game conference schedule with four non-conference opponents, with the format and rotations likely seeing a change for 2025 and beyond.

The SEC will also eliminate the divisional standings in 2024 and will place the top two teams in the overall standings into the SEC Championship Game, which is set for Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024 and will be televised by ABC.

Featured non-conference match-ups for each SEC team in 2024 include Alabama at Wisconsin, Arkansas at Oklahoma State, California at Auburn, Florida at Florida State, Georgia vs. Clemson (in Atlanta), Louisville at Kentucky, LSU vs. USC (in Las Vegas), Mississippi State at Arizona State, Boston College at Missouri, Houston at Oklahoma, Ole Miss at Wake Forest, South Carolina at Clemson, Tennessee vs. NC State (in Charlotte), Texas at Michigan, Notre Dame at Texas A&M, and Virginia Tech at Vanderbilt (at Nissan Stadium).

With the SEC Championship Game being aired on ABC next season, the AAC Championship Game might have to move from Saturday, December 7th to Friday, December 6th. Here is what ABC’s Championship Game would look like next season:

December 6th, 2024:
AAC Championship Game at 8 pm et on ABC
December 7th, 2024:
Big 12 Championship Game at 12 pm et on ABC
ACC Championship Game at 4 pm et on ABC
SEC Championship Game at 8 pm et on ABC

Man, I’m sweating over thinking about how tough these SEC teams are. So proud of their bravery to play 8 conference games, 1 P5 opponent, and 3 amazingly tough sunbelt or FCS teams. Bravo. 16 teams now and you still will be playing barely half of the league. Remember Sankey said that “our teams are playing everyone!” You go get em Greg while your nose grows as fast as Pinocchio!!

I’m dying with anticipation over the games against Mercer, Murray State, and Wofford. These SEC schedules are so brutal. Remember that these teams are SO good and tough that most of them need 3 free wins per season to help get bowl eligibility and to have less losses so they can keep as many teams ranked as possible. Great strategy! Shows the league has ridiculously large grapefruits. Can’t wait until this 2024 season starts so I can buy tickets to see my almighty SEC team beat an FCS team by 40+. Those are the best games! I also can’t wait to watch my team play another SEC team just once over the next 8 years with this wonderful 8 game conference schedule. So much fun for the fans when you share a conference with teams that you never play! Love it!!!!

Fellow SEC fans, would you rather drop a game with Mercer or Louisiana school of the blind technical university for a game against a fellow SEC opponent? Yes, I realize this opponent could be Vanderbilt, but it could also be Georgia or even Ole Miss.

While in the most part agree with you I need to give a public notice that Florida is playing three out of conference Power 4 teams in 2024. They scheduled Miami, FL and Florida St and also UCF which was not P4 when they scheudled them, but Florida did not cancel the game and schedule a bad Sun Belt team. Compliments to the UF AD, may you be an example for the rest of the conference.

I will give some Kudos for those scheduleing two Power 5 games including the end of year rivalary games with ACC teams.

Yes, props to Florida and LSU for actually not scheduling 3 free wins like most of the remaining members of the conference did. Florida has a good schedule and is actually “trying” to challenge themselves.

I told my husband Nick to knock off the shenanigans and either move to a 9 game schedule or schedule 2 competitive non-conference opponents. He secretly told me that he was pretending to advocate for 9 conference games, but in reality, he just wanted to sound tough and knew it wasn’t going to happen. Free wins for everybody he said. That’s how you prove you’re the best, by beating Arkansas A&M Little Rock on the football field by 63+.

As A Georgia Bulldogs Fan My favorite Cupcake Game is Georgia Tennesse Tech 9/7 & hopefully Dawgs will play FCS Independent Kennesaw State in future.

Dan have a very minor adjustment for my dream SEC schedule for week 10 11/2/24 ABC will show Ole Miss at Arkansas instead of ESPN2.
