2020 Tuskegee-Alabama State football game canceled

The 2020 Tuskegee Golden Tigers at Alabama State Hornets football game has been canceled, according to an announcement by Alabama State.

The game, dubbed the 2020 Labor Day Classic, was scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 5 at Alabama State’s ASU Stadium in Montgomery, Ala.

Tuskegee, a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), will not play football this fall following an announcement from the SIAC that all sporting events have been suspended through Fall 2020.

“The decision to extend the SIAC suspension into the Fall of 2020 was guided by the prevailing data, science as well as current Coronavirus infection trajectories,” SIAC Council of President Chairman George T. French, Jr. said. “In light of these very difficult realities, and in the context of the overarching priority of all of my colleague SIAC presidents to protect the health, wellness and safety of all of our students and staff, we are confident that the decision announced today is consistent with those fundamental health and safety priorities.”

Alabama State, which now has an opening for Week 1 of the 2020 season, is working on replacing that contest, per their release.

The Hornets are scheduled to play back-to-back contests at Texas Tech on Sept. 12 and Kennesaw State on Sept. 19 before opening Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play on Sept. 26 at home against Mississippi Valley State.
