The 2020 Southern Illinois Salukis at Wisconsin Badgers football game has been rescheduled for the 2027 season, per an announcement by SIU.
Wisconsin was originally scheduled to host Southern Illinois at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisc., on Sept. 12, 2020. However, the game was canceled when the Big Ten decided to play a conference-only schedule in 2020 due to the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
The Badgers will now host the Salukis in Madison on Sept. 4, 2027. Wisconsin will pay Southern Illinois a $625,000 guarantee for the contest, which is $125,000 more than the original game guarantee for $500,000.
Wisconsin now has two non-conference games set for the 2027 season. Following the season-opener against Southern Illinois, the Badgers will travel to take on the Pitt Panthers on Sept. 11.
“I’d like to commend the administration at Wisconsin for diligently working with us to find a suitable replacement date and fair compensation,” said SIU Director of Athletics Liz Jarnigan. “Guarantee games are a critical source of revenue for our department, and our players, coaches and fans always look forward to the challenge of playing an elite program like Wisconsin.”
Wisconsin is the first scheduled non-conference opponent for Southern Illinois in 2027. The Salukis also have future games scheduled at Kansas in 2020, at Kansas State in 2021, at Northwestern in 2022, at Northern Illinois in 2023, at Kansas in 2024, and at Illinois in 2026.
