The East Carolina Pirates and the South Carolina Gamecocks have agreed to reschedule their postponed football game in 2020 to the 2027 season, FBSchedules.com has learned.
South Carolina was scheduled to host East Carolina at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, S.C., on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020, but the game was postponed due to the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
South Carolina will now host East Carolina at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2027, according to a copy of an amendment to the original contract obtained from East Carolina University via a state public records request.
The rescheduled game is part of what was a five-game series that the two schools agreed to back in 2014. The Gamecocks defeated the Pirates in the first two games of the series, 33-23 in 2014 and 20-15 in 2016, both in Columbia.
East Carolina was supposed to host South Carolina in Greenville, N.C., in 2019, but the Gamecocks canceled that contest. The lone game in Greenville is currently still scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021.
East Carolina and South Carolina first met on the gridiron in 1977 and have played a total of 19 contests. The Gamecocks have won four consecutive games in the series and now lead 14-5.
East Carolina-Campbell Date Change
East Carolina was previously scheduled to host Campbell on Sept. 24, 2022. Per a copy of an amendment obtained by FBSchedules.com, that date of the contest has been moved up one week to Sept. 17, 2022.
