The Big East has set their updated home and away football opponents for the 2013 season, conference commissioner Mike Aresco announced today.
Due to Boise State and San Diego State opting to remain in the Mountain West Conference, the Big East has scrapped their East-West divisional alignment. They will also be unable to hold a championship game in 2013.
The 2013 season will feature new conference members Houston, Memphis, SMU, and UCF. East Carolina and Tulane are set to join in 2014 with Navy following in 2015.

What a sad, sad looking conference. If Boise and SDSU were smart they would have joined for at least one year (2013) in order to get a prime chance at the conference title and BCS bowl berth. MWC would have waited.
Originally, it looked like the Big East could eventually be:
East: Rutgers, UConn, Temple, UCF, USF, Cincinnati, Army, Navy
West: Boise State, Air Force, SMU, Houston, Memphis, SDSU, Louisville, BYU
Plus ND and Catholic 7 basketball.
What a difference!
ND and Catholic 7 are leaving
He said that’s what it looked like it would be at one time…
yeah, and now it looks like shit.
That is so sad. The year UC joined the Big East, its conference football schedule was:
at Pitt, UConn, Louisville, at Syracuse, West Virginia, at South Florida and at Rutgers. It was such an exciting time to be around the program!
But now look what’s become of the Big East! It’s not hard to argue Cincinnati had a better conference schedule when they were in the CUSA than they will after Louisville leaves the Big East.
Sigh.
SMU can pay the buyout and move if something becomes available. $5 or $10 million is pocket change. Houston is stuck because they can’t pay the exit fee. UH needed $120 million for its new stadium and alumni only came up with $50 million. The rest was put on the backs of future students through increased fees.
Not TRUE, Houston have clause if the revenue is less they could leave BE. Houston got more $$$$ than u think. Houston only get 25% fund from Rick Perry regime in TX.
UH alumni still FAILED to fund the stadium.
What is the latest on television rights? Does NBC/NBCSN still have the inside track?
At least there won’t be any trans-continental traveling issues for schools like Temple, Connecticut and Rutgers.
With Middle Tenn and fiu joining c-usa next season the big east should get tulane and east carolina to join nect year. That would give them 12 teams and championship game.
So how is the big, bad Big East going to add to get to 12 teams, New Mexico State? The would provide the perfect market.
Tulane and ECU come in for 2014 and Navy for 2015.
The new Conference USA!!!
So the Big East is now Conference USA, Conference USA is now the Sun Belt and the Sun Belt…still stinks.
This conference is going to go the way of the WAC in a few years, with basketball collapsing and Louisville leaving they need some help. Once the Catholic 7 bounce this conference is worthless
