Virginia, UTSA cancel 2013-14 Home-and-home Football Series

Virginia CavaliersThe Virginia Cavaliers and the UTSA Roadrunners have canceled their future home-and-home football series, has confirmed.

The cancellation was mutual, as conference realignment has affected the future schedules of both schools. Virginia will begin playing a 9-game ACC schedule in 2013 and they had one too many non-conference games scheduled for both 2013 and 2014.

UTSA, currently a member of the 7-team WAC, needed six non-conference games per year to fill out their schedule. But with the Roadrunners moving to Conference USA in 2013, they now need to eliminate some games.

Virginia was slated to host UTSA at Scott Stadium on Nov. 2, 2013 and travel to face the Roadrunners at the Alamodome on Nov. 8, 2014.

With the Roadrunners off their schedule, the Cavaliers will face a 2013 slate consisting of a game at Penn State and home games vs. VMI and Ball State. In 2014, Virginia hosts UCLA, Richmond, and Kent State.

UTSA’s 2013 schedule now includes home games against Oklahoma State and Houston and road games at New Mexico and Arizona. Their 2014 slate currently consists of five games: at Houston, vs. Arizona, at Oklahoma State, at Kansas State, and vs. New Mexico. One of those games will have to be postponed or canceled to get down to four non-conference games.

On Tuesday, it was rumored that Virginia would face Auburn in the 2015 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game. But later in the day, Virginia issued a release stating that the game was not scheduled.

I think UTSA should postpone their matchup against Kansas State, that way they keep their home and home series with the other 4 teams in back to back seasons
