Utah State, BYU extend future football series through 2026

The Utah State Aggies and the BYU Cougars have extended their future football series through the 2026 season, FBSchedules.com has learned.

Utah State and BYU previously agreed to play each other through the 2022 season. The two schools are scheduled to meet at Maverik Stadium in Logan, Utah, on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021 and at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah, on Friday, Sept. 30, 2022.

The new contract, signed on October 5, 2020, adds four more games to the series. Utah State will host BYU at Maverik Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023 and Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, while the Cougars will host the Aggies at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Friday, Oct. 4, 2024 and then again on Friday, Oct. 2, 2026.

Below is the complete list of dates for the Utah State-BYU series from 2021 through 2026:

  • Oct. 1, 2021 – at Utah State
  • Sep. 30, 2022 – at BYU
  • Sep. 16, 2023 – at Utah State
  • Oct. 4, 2024 – at BYU
  • Oct. 3, 2025 – at Utah State
  • Oct. 2, 2026 – at BYU

BYU was slated to host Utah State last season on Friday, Oct. 2, but the game was canceled due to the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

BYU and Utah State last met in Logan in 2019 with the Cougars coming out on top 42-14. The Cougars and Aggies have met a total of 89 times on the gridiron. BYU leads the series 49-37-3 and has won three of the last five contests.

With the addition of BYU, Utah State has now completed their non-conference schedule in 2023. Other opponents that season include Iowa (Sept. 2) and UConn (Sept. 30) on the road and Idaho State (Sept. 9) at home.

BYU, a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) Independent, now has 11 games tentatively scheduled for the 2023 season. Other scheduled opponents include Tennessee, Rice, Boise State, UNLV, and Southern Utah at home and Virginia, Arkansas, Fresno State, UCF, and USC on the road.
