The San Jose State Spartans have added the Cal Poly Mustangs to their 2023 football schedule, FBSchedules.com has learned.
San Jose State will host Cal Poly at CEFCU Stadium in San Jose, California on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023. The Mustangs will receive a $450,000 guarantee for the game, per a copy of the contracts obtained from both schools via a state public records request.
San Jose State and Cal Poly first met on the gridiron in 1923 and have played 16 games overall. The Spartans have won three straight over the Mustangs, including 34-13 last season, and now have a 12-4 lead in the series.
Cal Poly is a member of the Big Sky Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision. The Mustangs fisnihed the 2017 season 1-10 overall and 1-7 in conference play.
Cal Poly is the third known non-conference opponent for San Jose State in 2023. The Spartans are also slated to play at USF and host California that season.
San Jose State now has opponents from the FCS lined up for the next six seasons: UC Davis (2018), Northern Colorado (2019), UC Davis (2020), Southern Utah (2021), Portland State (2022), and Cal Poly (2023).
It would be really nice to ditch those cupcakes in exchange for a home and away series with MAC schools….
I did not realize that the University of San Francisco (USF) has a football team. Are they going to start one?
Is this a serious question?
Must be a drunk Virginia fan still reeling after that L against UMBC….
USF in this case stands for University of South Florida.
