The Nebraska Cornhuskers have added the Houston Christian Huskies to their 2025 football schedule, FBSchedules.com has learned.
The contest between the University of Nebraska and Houston Christian University (HCU) is listed on the official athletics website of the HCU Huskies.
Nebraska will host HCU at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Neb., on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025. The game will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
HCU is a member of the Southland Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Huskies played their first official season of football in 2014.
Nebraska was previously scheduled to travel to face the Cincinnati Bearcats on Sept. 13, 2025, which is now when the Huskers will host Houston Christian. The Nebraska-Cincinnati game has been rescheduled and will now be played on Aug. 30, 2025 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind., which we reported earlier on Tuesday.
The 2025 game with Cincinnati is part of a two-game series that will now conclude in Lincoln on Sept. 11, 2032. The series was originally scheduled to kickoff in 2020, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nebraska’s non-conference schedule in 2025 also includes games at home against the Akron Zips on Sept. 6 and the ULM Warhawks on Oct. 18. With the addition of Houston Christian and the rescheduling of Cincinnati, the Cornhuskers are now overscheduled by one game and will have to postpone or cancel either the Akron or ULM contest.
The 2025 Big Ten opponents for Nebraska, which were announced by the conference earlier this month, include Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, and USC at home and Maryland, Minnesota, Penn State, and UCLA on the road.
Update (10/25/2023)
Nebraska has announced that they will not play ULM in 2025.
Update (10/26/2023)
Nebraska will pay Houston Christian a $500,000 guarantee for the contest, according to a copy of the contract obtained from the University of Nebraska via a state public records request.
Football Schedules
Maybe the Huskers can win this one……they don’t want any part of the FCS Dakota teams.
Why? This is such a bad move scheduling this team. Like I’m embarrassed
the why is what I’m most interested in as well
This shows you how bad Nebraska football is these days.
