The Navy Midshipmen and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will play at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey in 2020, Navy and MetLife Stadium announced on Thursday.
The game, set for Saturday, Sept. 5, will be the season-opener for both schools and their second matchup at MetLife Stadium. In their first meeting there in 2010, the Midshipmen defeated the Fighting Irish 35-17.
Notre Dame and Navy have met a total of 89 times dating back to 1927. The Fighting Irish have won 76 of those meetings, including five straight.
The two schools are scheduled to meet this season on Saturday, Nov. 5 at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Florida.
In their last meeting in 2015, the Fighting Irish defeated Navy 41-24 in South Bend. Navy’s last victory in the series was the 35-17 decision on October 23, 2010 in East Rutherford.
“We are excited to return to MetLife Stadium, one of the finest venues in North America, for the 2020 Navy-Notre Dame game,” said Naval Academy Director of Athletics Chet Gladchuk. “It will make for a great weekend of sightseeing in New York City and watching the longest continuous intersectional rivalry in all of college football. Our last trip to MetLife Stadium in 2010 was a memorable one.”
