The Kansas Jayhawks and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights have scheduled a home-and-home football series for 2015 and 2018, the two schools announced today.
Kansas will travel to face Rutgers at High Point Solutions Stadium in Piscataway on Sept. 26, 2015. The Jayhawks will then host the Scarlet Knights at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence on Sept. 15, 2018. The two schools have never met before in football.
“Having grown up in Middlesex (N.J.) I was intrigued to hear we were in discussions to play Rutgers,” said Kansas head coach Charlie Weis. “I have always pulled for people from New Jersey, including the State University, Rutgers. I am excited about this home-and-home series, although I’m afraid of how many tickets I’m going to have to purchase!”
“We are excited about our new series with the Kansas Jayhawks in 2015 and 2018 and bringing our fans another great non-conference opponent at High Point Solutions Stadium,” said Tim Pernetti, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. “We remain hard at work everyday on football scheduling to do whatever it takes to deliver an exciting slate of future games for all of our great Rutgers Football fans.”
Kansas now has two non-conference games scheduled for the 2015 season. The Jayhawks also have a verbal agreement to play Memphis at a site to be determined.
The Scarlet Knights have three games on the books for the 2015 season. In addition to hosting Kansas, they are slated to travel to Penn State and face Army at Yankee Stadium. After playing at Kansas in 2018, Rutgers will host the Miami Hurricanes the following week.
