The Kansas Jayhawks and the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers have agreed to modify their home-and-home football series that was scheduled for 2020 and 2021.
Under the previous agreement, Kansas was scheduled to travel to take on Coastal Carolina at Brooks Stadium in Conway, S.C., on Sept. 26, 2020. The return game at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Kan., was slated for Sept. 11, 2021.
Due to the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the Big 12 switched to a nine-game conference schedule with one non-conference game. The only stipulation was that the non-conference game had to be played in the home state of the Big 12 team.
As a result, Kansas will now host Coastal Carolina in Lawrence in 2020 and the game has been moved up two weeks to Saturday, Sept. 12. The return game in 2021 has kept the same date only with the site switched, which will see the Jayhawks travel to take on the Chanticleers in Conway on Sept. 11.
“We appreciate the cooperation of the Kansas athletic administration in working with us to keep our series intact,” stated Coastal Carolina director of athletics Matt Hogue. “We look forward to this year’s contest.”
In their first and only matchup on the gridiron last season, Coastal Carolina traveled to Lawrence and upset Kansas 12-7. The win was Coastal Carolina’s first-ever win over a Power Five program.
The Coastal Carolina at Kansas matchup is currently slated to be the 2020 season-opener for both schools.
