Conference USA announces division alignment, 2013 opponents

By Kevin Kelley -

Conference USA has announced their new division alignment and has also set the home and away opponents for the 2013 season.

For 2013, Conference USA welcomes new members Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, North Texas, and UTSA. FIU and FAU are both joining the league one year earlier than was previously expected. Houston, Memphis, SMU, and UCF have each left Conference USA to join the Big East.

Listed below is the new alignment for Conference USA:

East Division

East Carolina, FIU, Florida Atlantic, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, Southern Miss, UAB

West Division

Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Rice, Tulane, Tulsa, UTEP, UTSA

Each team will play an 8-game conference schedule, which includes games against every other team within their division (six games) and two teams from the opposite division.

Conference USA also confirmed today that Old Dominion, which joins the conference in 2014, will be eligible for the East Division title and a spot in the 2014 C-USA Championship game. ODU will not be bowl eligible until after the 2015 season.

Tulane’s farewell C*USA performance. Let me just say that the league has been very good to Tulane since it joined in 1995-1996. I just wish that circumstances could have been more encouraging to continue the membership past 2013-2014. Much good luck to the league in the future, and I truly hope that one day C*USA gets recognized as a major conference.

App will get in shortly after UNCC gets into the SEC. In other words it ain’t happening.

Minus cincy n Louisville in the big east conference usa is a lot stronger. After the 2013 season conference is have a lot more to offer them big least. Plus after 2013 big east will no longer have it’s auto qualifier to BCS.

Who knows what the conference alignments will look like even just two years from now. I am sure that 14 team conferences will be the norm of the not too distant future. 16 team leagues are not out of the question. Maybe more, who knows.

Every time one of the major conferences increase their size even by a mere couple of teams, a ripple effect occurs in other leagues all over the country. There is no telling how big any league will get. It becomes a matter of whether one can fortell the future, so any opinions god or bad are a mystery at this point.

Sorry!!!! I was thinking Big East and this is Conf. USA!!!! Didn’t knonw how to remove the post after it was posted.

you mean Middle Tennessee and Florida Atlantic are joining the league a year early… not FIU

Well, sensible divisions … what a concept.

I presume Southern Miss will move to the West once ECU and Tulane are out (assuming ECU leaves for everything) and Charlotte and ODU are in.

Unless Southern Miss also leaves. Or maybe it’ll be Tulsa. Or both.

The SBC opponents have trickled out, but no info on a release from the conference. Any that we are aware of are listed on each teams’ schedule (at bottom).

This conference will be a cake walk for UTEP!!!!!!!!!! Miners will be a force to rekon with GO MINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
