The BYU Cougars have announced their 2021 football schedule, which includes seven games against opponents from the Power Five.
BYU opens the 2021 season on Saturday, Sept. 4 against the Arizona Wildcats at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

On Friday, Oct. 1, BYU travels to take on the Utah State Aggies. The Cougars then return to LaVell Edwards Stadium to host the Boise State Broncos on Oct. 9.
Two consecutive road trips follow as the Cougars head out to take on the Baylor Bears on Oct. 16 and the Washington State Cougars on Oct. 23. That’s followed by back-to-back home contests against the Virginia Cavaliers on Oct. 30 and the Idaho State Bengals on Nov. 6.
Following an open date on Nov. 13, BYU closes out their 2021 regular-season campaign with consecutive road contests at the Georgia Southern Eagles on Nov. 20 and at the USC Trojans on Nov. 27.

BYU finished the 2020 season 11-1 overall, which was capped off by a 49-23 victory over the UCF Knights in the RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl in Boca Raton, Fla.
Looks to be a good schedule.
It certainly does. Replace Idaho State with Oregon State, and you have a strong schedule that can put BYU close to a New Year’s Six bowl this season. #BYUisaP5school :)
5 PAC-12 teams on the schedule plus 2 other P5 teams. They end most seasons against Stanford or USC. It boggles my mind why they are not in the PAC-12. I know religion is a part of it, but if they can play them regularly, why not let them in the conference?
That would make a lot of sense and would help the PAC as well.
Who would be their counterpart? Boise State?
Hawaii should have a scheduling alliance with the Pac-12, just like Notre Dame does with the ACC. The Rainbow Warriors would play six Pac-12 schools (three home, three away) every season and rotate them every two years. #alohainthepac12 :)
Either Air Force or Colorado State would be 14. BYU would be Utah’s traveling partner and AFA/CSU would be Colorado’s traveling partner. Then add UNR & UNLV as 15&16.
BYU should be in the Big 12 Conference alongside Cincinnati as early as 2022. This schedule gives the Cougars seven Power Five foes, including in-state foe Pac-12 member Utah. BYU’s two toughest opponents this season are both USC and rival Utah IMO. #cougsinthebig12 :)
7 P5 opponents and one (Boise ST) who should count as one. A great schedule for BYU except for a team that finished #16 in the final Committee ranking, they only play one team (#17 USC) on the schedule next year. I suspct the schedule will have more ranked team into next years season.
