The BYU Cougars have scheduled future football games against five WAC schools for 2011 and 2012. The games are part of a scheduling agreement with BYU and the WAC.
On Tuesday, the Cougars announced that they will leave the Mountain West and go independent in football in 2011. As a result, the WAC has agreed to supply BYU wil five football opponents in 2011 and four in 2012. Listed below are details of each matchup.
BYU vs. Hawaii
The BYU Cougars and Hawaii Warriors will play a 2011-12 home-and-home series. Dates for the games have not been announced yet, but BYU was already slated to host Hawaii on September 8, 2012.
BYU leads the overall series against Hawaii 19-8, but the two schools haven’t played since 2002.
BYU vs. Idaho
BYU will host the Idaho Vandals at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo in 2011. The Cougars will not play a return game against Idaho in Moscow.
Idaho is 2-1 all-time against BYU. The two schools played a series of games in 1953, 1954 and 1955.
BYU vs. Louisiana Tech
BYU and Louisiana Tech will play a 2011-12 home-and-home series. BYU will travel to face Louisiana Tech at Joe Aillet Stadium in Ruston in 2011. In 2012, the Cougars will host the Bulldogs at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo.
The 2011 game will be the first ever meeting between these two schools.
BYU vs. New Mexico State
BYU and New Mexico State will play a 2011-12 home-and-home series. BYU will host New Mexico State in Provo in 2011. In 2012, the Cougars will travel to face the Aggies at Aggie Memorial Stadium in Las Cruces.
The Cougars and Aggies have never met in football.
BYU vs. San Jose State
BYU and San Jose State will play a 2011-12 home-and-home series. BYU will host San Jose State in 2011 and travel to Spartan Stadium in 2012.
San Jose State leads the series against BYU 9-5. The two schools previously met in 1998, but prior to that they hadn’t played since 1969.

Let’s hope that by 2013/2014 a significant number of Big-12 schools follow the lead of Texas and start scheduling home and home deals with BYU. This could give ESPN what it needs to move forward renegotiating the Big-12 TV deal which isn’t due to expire until 2016. This more than anything is why the Big-12 isn’t seeking replacement schools at this time.

Correct. This post was from September 2010. BYU later postponed this game so they could play TCU at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.
