The Nebraska Cornhuskers home football game in 2027 against the Miami Redhawks will be played at Arrowhead Stadium, it was officially announced Tuesday.
Nebraska had originally been scheduled to host Miami at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Neb., on September 11, 2027. The two schools will now meet on Friday, August, 27, 2027, at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.
“Arrowhead Events is excited to once again bring college football to Arrowhead Stadium,” said Jeremy Slavens, Vice President of Arrowhead Events. “Arrowhead Stadium has a long history of hosting premier sporting and entertainment events, and we are proud to kick off the 2027 college football season with a marquee matchup. We are grateful to the University of Nebraska for once again choosing Kansas City and Arrowhead Stadium as the stage for one of its contests. We look forward to welcoming the passionate Cornhuskers fanbase back to Kansas City and introducing Miami University’s RedHawks fans to the unforgettable atmosphere and exceptional gameday experience of Arrowhead Stadium.”
Arrowhead Stadium is the home of the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs. The stadium currently has a seating capacity of 76,416, which is 9,042 less Nebraska’s on-campus stadium.
“Our fans and team enjoyed the game in Kansas City a year ago, and shortly after that contest we began having discussions with the Chiefs about returning to Arrowhead,” Nebraska Deputy AD/Chief Operating Officer Haven Fields said. “The 2027 schedule provided an opportunity to play a game in another great venue with Memorial Stadium at a reduced capacity, while maintaining seven games in Lincoln for our fans.”
Miami and Nebraska have never met on the gridiron. Following that contest, Nebraska will play home non-conference games against Northern Illinois (Sept. 4) and Northern Iowa (Sept. 18). Per the release, the Huskers are expected to play a Big Ten Conference game on Sept. 11.
“I’m excited for our student-athletes to participate on a national stage and for our fans to have the chance to watch Miami football inside an NFL stadium,” Miami Director of Athletics David Sayler said. “A huge thank you to everyone at Nebraska and Arrowhead Stadium that made this incredible opportunity possible.”
In addition to the 2027 matchup, Nebraska has also scheduled a future contest against Miami that will be played on Sept. 6, 2031 in Lincoln.
Not that I hate neutral site games? But I really wish this was like a once in every 6 or 8 years kind of thing. I hate getting home games taken away from us.
Even against a MAC team? And with Memorial Stadium having reduced capacity in 2027, this allows fans who otherwise wouldn’t be able to get a ticket in Lincoln to attend a game.
A game against a MAC opponent as a neutral site game? You’re telling me there was no better game to play at Arrowhead?

Run that idea past the Husker season ticket holders. Seems that some of them commenting on this site hate the idea of even giving up a home game vs a MAC team.
@Richard another option would be Nebraska playing ONE legitimate non conference game. Their non conference schedule is Miami(OH), Northern Illinois and Northern Iowa. That schedule is pathetic enough for Indiana.
The Chiefs should play a home game on the University of Nebraska campus in return.

The Chiefs are very popular in much of Nebraska. The NFL should be staging 8 domestic neutral site games each year in addition to the international games.

SEC!: Actually, it is pretty ridiculous. MLB, NHL, and NBA teams have a ton of home games, so they certainly can sacrifice a few home games to barnstorm. NFL teams get only a handful of home games a year, and most of them are on the weekend, meaning fans can travel farther to see a game, so playing a game at a stadium a few hours away instead of at home (where they generally can capture more revenue streams) makes zero sense.

Arrowhead Stadium would be perfect for Nebraska-Oklahoma in future & be very nice for both Nebraska & Oklahoma fans
Note that in 2027, Arrowhead will actually have greater capacity than Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.
