College football’s Week 2 rankings for the 2026 season are out, and Ohio State has tightened its grip on No. 1 across both major polls.
The Buckeyes picked up six additional first‑place votes—now totaling 46—after dismantling Ball State 56–3. Their 1,684 points put them 152 ahead of second‑place Georgia, which did not receive a first‑place vote.
Notre Dame, Texas, and Indiana round out the AP Top 5 this week.
Among preseason ranked teams, LSU made the biggest move. The Tigers climbed three spots to No. 8 following a dominant 51–10 win over Clemson.
The top of the rankings diverges slightly between the AP and Coaches Polls. The AP Top 5 lists Ohio State, Georgia, Notre Dame, Texas, and Indiana. The Coaches Poll flips Texas and Notre Dame, slotting Texas at No. 3 and Notre Dame at No. 4.
Michigan tumbled out of the AP Poll after its controversial 13–12 escape against Western Michigan, while Clemson dropped out of the Coaches Poll entirely.
In the Stats Perform FCS Top 25, Montana State remains the unanimous No. 1 with all 57 first‑place votes. South Dakota State holds second, followed by Montana in third.
