The Boise State Broncos and the UConn Huskies have scheduled a home-and-home football series for 2014 and 2018, both schools have announced.

UConn will host Boise State in the first game of the series at Rentschler Field in East Hartford on Sept. 13, 2014. The second and final game will be played at Bronco Stadium in Boise on Sept. 8, 2018. The 2014 contest will be the first meeting between the two schools.

Connecticut now has three games scheduled in 2014 and one in 2018. Other games next season include BYU (Aug. 28) and Stony Brook (Sept. 6), both at home.

The Huskies have been setting up a very challenging non-conference schedule, and the addition of Boise State continues that trend. UConn also has future games set against BYU, Maryland, Michigan, Tennessee, and Virginia.

“We are very excited to announce that another nationally prominent opponent will be visiting Rentschler Field,” said UConn Director of Athletics Warde Manuel. “We are committed to giving our fans an exciting football schedule each year and we believe this series with Boise State will be an important piece of that. Husky supporters should be enthusiastic as we will playing home games against Michigan, Maryland, Tennessee, BYU, Virginia and now Boise State in upcoming seasons.”

Boise State now only needs one more non-conference game in both 2014 and 2018. The Broncos open the 2014 season vs. Ole Miss in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game on Aug. 28, visit UConn on Sept. 13, and host BYU on Oct. 25.

In 2018, Boise opens at Troy on Sept. 1, hosts UConn on Sept. 8, and then hosts BYU on Oct. 20.

BYU, Boise, Virginia and UConn are all playing one another in the future. Good for them, makes you wonder if there are fewer schools looking for challenging future games than some have sugested.

This is what mid-majors who play is sub par Conferences have to do to not only produce half decent ticket sales but but SOS as well , both of these schools desperately want to be in a Power 5 Conference but its unlikely either school ever gets into one !

I don’t think these guys are worried about conferences. It is all about exposure.
Boise and BYU’s deals are better than any “non elite” members of the Big 5. Boise State just negotiated a deal with ESPN where they control all their home games, nobody else in any other conference (big five or little 5) have that. Why join the big 5 and lose that? The case of BYU is well documented. With the exception of Notre Dame, Texas, USC, Alabama and Ohio State – no other university was on national TV more than BYU over the last 2 years. BYU and Texas have THEIR OWN TV NETWORKS. Don’t worry about BYU joining the “power 5” worry about Teams like Texas leaving. I wish Penn State would make a move to Independence and negotiate a deal like BYU. Both of their AD’s (BSU amd BYU) deserve a raise.

I dont know where you are getting your facts; but EVERY Big Ten team has EVERY game (home and road) televised nationally; and those games are on networks people can actually find.

If you of a fan of State pen, er oops Penn State, you can find each conference game, or non-con home game either on ABC, BTN or one of the ESPN’s.

They don’t play many non-con road games; but when they do, they are against major opponents and will certainly be on national TV.

“They don’t play many non-con road games; but when they do, they are against major opponents and will certainly be on national TV.”

I guess if you look at Temple and Virginia as Major opponents.

“I dont know where you are getting your facts; but EVERY Big Ten team has EVERY game (home and road) televised nationally; and those games are on networks people can actually find.”

I guess if you want to pay extra $ for pay per view aka THE BIG TEN NETWORK. Then yes, if you pay enough, every game can be on TV.

I guess I am talking about legit channels like ESPN or ESPN 2, something everyone has included if they have a minimal cable package. Not PPV channels like the BIG TEN or PAC 12 Networks. I travel, a lot and I have found ESPN and ESPN2 in every single hotel I go to. I have only seen the BIG TEN or PAC 12 Networks 2 times in the last year (both times in Columbus Ohio)

Boise State and BYU aren’t forcing their fans to “buy” weekly games on top of cable fees. They are featured on ESPN and ESPN 2.

And with regards to State Pen – you need to do your homework.

This seems like a good pickup on the schedule for Boise State. They didn’t join the Big East, but they will still get some exposure there without being committed to endless redeye airplane flights. Hopefully UConn will hold up their end of the bargain and won’t wimp out on the trip to Boise in 2018.

Doesn’t look so good now. Uconn 0-7 and blown out by 45 today. Uconn must be the new Southern Miss that Boise used to schedule.
