The Washington Huskies have added the Georgia State Panthers to their 2014 football schedule, FBSchedules.com has learned.
According to a copy of the contract, Washington will host Georgia State at Husky Stadium in Seattle on September 20, 2014. UW will pay GSU $900,000 for the game and there will be a fee of $1.5 million if either team should cancel.
Washington now has 13 games scheduled for the 2014 season, which is allowed due to the Hawaii Exemption. Teams that play at Hawaii during the regular season are allowed to schedule a 13th game. The Huskies are scheduled to open the 2014 season at Aloha Stadium on Aug. 30.
The other two non-conference games for Washington are Eastern Washington (Sept. 6) and Illinois (Sept. 13), both at home.
Washington’s Pac-12 schedule in 2014 should be a reverse of 2013, so the Huskies will host Arizona State, Oregon State, Stanford, and UCLA and travel to Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington State.
Georgia State played their first football season in 2010. The Panthers are moving up from the FCS to the FBS and will join the Sun Belt Conference for the 2013 season.
GSU has never played a team from the Pac-12. In their first three seasons, Georgia State is 10-23 overall and 1-6 against teams from FBS conferences (0-1 vs. C-USA, 0-2 vs. SEC, 1-1 vs. Sun Belt, 0-2 vs. WAC).
Football Schedules
I’ll give GSU credit. They are loading up their schedules over the next few years with BCS conference schools. That’s how you FUND a program. Good luck Coach Miles!
If Georgia State needs bodybag games for funding, the buyout likely could have been kept smaller than $1,500,000 to keep their interest.
I see it more like to force Washington to play them. If a better team loses a game between now and next year. (lets say a MWC team) Then they need a game to get rid of. They won’t get rid of Hawaii due to them having to get rid of 2 games. They want a easy in state game so eastern Washington is safe. So is Illinois a BCS team. Georgia states is the only removable team and for Georgia State they gain money either way.
I hope this is on National TV. It’ll be fun to watch.
Pac-12 Networks
Maybe uw should do a game at Gsu. Would help recruiting ppl like Reuben foster
Another dumb down the schedule foe Washington. Hawaii, Illinois, Georgia State and Eastern Washington-now that is a Murderer’s Row. I guess Ballard High School was not available.
have to make it a fair playing field with the sec…
Washington isn’t exactly expected to do really well in their Pac12 schedule they can’t be getting top20 teams on the schedule. Georgia State needs that guarantee because making plans to travel 3000 miles needs a guarantee. Also, GSU would have difficulty getting another FBS opponent at the last minute if Wash backed out. This is good for all concerned. GSU needs to schedule more teams like this and less opponents like Bama and WVU – those games are just too tough!
The southern teams are hot, they are use to the heat……GSU is trying…Put the UGA bulldogs or Alabama and they kick your ass! Any comments?
