The Florida International Golden Panthers and the Maryland Terrapins have scheduled a 2013 and 2016 home-and-home football series, FIU announced today.
Maryland will host the first game of the series at Byrd Stadium in College Park on Aug. 31, 2013, which will be the season-opener for both schools. FIU will host the second game of the series at FIU Stadium in Miami on Sept. 10, 2016.
Maryland leads the overall series against FIU 3-0 after wins in 2006, 2007, and 2010.
“I want to thank the University of Maryland for playing this series with FIU,” said FIU Executive Director for Sports and Entertainment Pete Garcia. “These are the type of games our fans, students and alumni want to see. We will continue to schedule these quality opponents.”
“It is a great opportunity to add a third BCS (Bowl Championship Series) opponent to our schedule,” said Head Coach Mario Cristobal. “Coach (Randy) Edsall is doing an outstanding job with his program. I look forward to restarting our series with Maryland next season.”
Maryland has now completed their 2013 non-conference football schedule, which also includes games vs. Old Dominion, West Virginia (at Baltimore, MD) and at UConn. A previously announced game against Temple in 2013 has been moved to a future date to be announced.
FIU’s 2013 non-conference slate is also complete. After opening at Maryland, the Golden Panthers host UCF and Bethune-Cookman before traveling to Louisville. The 2013 season will be the first for FIU in Conference USA after moving over from the Sun Belt.
