The ACC has canceled all Spring football practice, including Spring football games, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), Spring sports across the conference had been suspended until further notice. Today’s announcement by the ACC puts an end to all athletic activities through the end of the 2019-20 academic year.
The release from the ACC noted that the conference consulted with the member institutions and that the decision to cancel Spring sports was unanimous.
“Our top priority remains the health and safety of our student-athletes as well as our fans, communities and the overall well-being of others during these uncharted times,” said ACC Commissioner John Swofford. “We are particularly disappointed for our student-athletes and will continue to work with our membership to assess what is appropriate in the future.”
