The 2014 SEC Football Schedule was officially announced today. Conference play begins on Thursday, Aug. 28 when Texas A&M visits South Carolina.
Beginning in 2014, Arkansas picks up Missouri as their permanent cross-division rival while South Carolina gets Texas A&M. The remaining rivalries stay the same: Florida-LSU, Georgia-Auburn, Kentucky-Mississippi State, Tennessee-Alabama, and Vanderbilt-Ole Miss.
The 2014 schedule is again an 8-game, 6-1-1 format schedule. The 2015 schedule will likely be the same, with 2016 marking the beginning of a new long-term format.
“The SEC Presidents and Chancellors have committed to a review of football scheduling to be completed in time for preparation of the 2016 schedule,” Slive said at the spring meetings. “The objective of this review is to develop a scheduling format for the 2016 season and beyond, which will be in the best interests of the conference. The conference’s current 6-1-1 scheduling format will continue until a new format is approved by the conference membership.”
Featured 2014 non-conference match-ups include Alabama vs. West Virginia (at Atlanta, GA), NIU at Arkansas, Auburn at Kansas State, Florida at Florida State, Clemson at Georgia, Kentucky at Louisville, LSU vs. Wisconsin (at Houston, TX), UCF at Missouri, Ole Miss vs. Boise State (at Atlanta, GA), South Carolina at Clemson, Tennessee at Oklahoma, and Texas A&M at SMU.
The 2014 SEC Championship Game will be played at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on Saturday, Dec. 6.

Seriously? Georgia misses EVERYBODY IN THE WEST YET AGAIN?! This is a F-ing joke.
Yet again? Georgia hosts LSU in 2013. And it wasn’t too long ago that people wanted nothing to do with Arkansas. That will likely happen again under Bret Beilema.
Sperrier had a good point when all this was being decided. Why the f@@k does Bama draw Tenn. every year while the Gators have to play LSU? Cake walk to Atlanta. And on top of that you have Notre Dame playing a lame schedule with no conference title? Cake walk to the championship game. Enough with the ND favoritism!!
Tennessee is Alabama’s permanent rival and Notre Dame picks its own schedule outside of the limited ACC contract. Quit whining about stuff you know nothing about.
UGA SUCKS!
Idaho, E Michigan and E Kentucky? Pad that schedule Florida…
They have tougher schedule than anyone in 2014: UGA, Bama, LSU, USC, and FSU……WTF? Who else do they need to play ya dumb ass?
i have to agree florida has a tough one next year
I’m a Vol fan, but in the Gator’s defense, they catch Bama & LSU from the west next year, plus FSU at the end of the year. I’ll give ’em the three cupcakes if they can make it through the rest unscathed.
Georgia has not face Bama since 2008 in Athens and has not been to Tusculoosa since ’07 what is going on with the scheduling they get LSU at home this year last year Fla had to go to A&M and they are stuck with LSU every year so when is Georgia going to face Bama on the road in 2021 or later what a joke!! Somebody is giving Georgia very favorable schedule every year bet they face one of the Mississippi schools in 15 as Auburn will be away and that means the crossover is at home in Athens. Fla just played Bama in ’11 at home why cant Fla face Auburn and give Georgia Bama but that would mess up the permanent rival games which are causing alot of the problems with the scheduling!
Cannot wait to see 15 and beyond for Georgia!
Part of the problem is the conference expanded to 14 teams. Therefore, there is only 1 rotating cross-division game instead of 2 like 2011 and prior.
Agreed that is the main problem when u add more teams it decreases your chances of meeting teams more frequently but Georgia is ridiculous I cannot believe that the other AD’s did not catch this mess when they were talking about schedules. I have heard from AD office in conference that this will all resolve itself shortly as they are looking seriously at two things now 9 game schedule and the crossover permanent rivals as that is why only the 14 schedule was released as they had done the 15 and 16 schedule but that was scrapped. The other issue is if Big 10 goes bigger 16 or more the SEC will follow suit and then u would have pods of 4 and this will help scheduling as the AD dept told me. Either way something has to be done as not to play a team for 8 years is really beyond ones comprehension.
I agree this schedule sucks! Bama should be playing UGA instead of UT which is a joke. Sperrier had it right when he raised this six months ago.
Georgia gets Auburn every year bc they are set team from the west they play plus it is the oldest riverly in the South. I don’t see why everyone is pickin on Georgia’s schedule. In 2013 they are the ONLY team to play 3 ranked teams in their 1st 4 games . Oh by the way make that 3 top 10 teams. I mean hell…if you look at each division the West is either Alabama or LSU and if you look at the east it is Georgia, South Carolina, or Florida with Tennessee as possible sleeper. And for the second year in a row Georgia will start the 2014 season with their 1st 2 games being against ranked teams. Who else in the SEC can say that?????? No one
The 6-1-1 format is not working and will not work with 14 teams in conference as it gives some teams unfair advantage and others easy cupcake schedule in conference as far as opposing division is concerned. The permanent rival games ALA/Tenn has not been competitive for years, Aub/Ga is another one Fla/LSU is good game every year but why get stuck with an upper West heavyweight every year rotate it around. When A&M & Missouri were added the SEC at that point should have gone immediately to a 9 game schedule to avoid teams not playing for 7 to 8 years as in the case with GA/Ala which is ridiculous the other conferences I believe are no longer than 5 to 6 years in rotation. Comments on this Mess as I would like to hear ideas to fix this schedule headache?????
9 game schedules are a bad idea. Who really cares if you don’t play someone all that often? That is the reality of big conferences, unless you actually add to the total number of games.
I’d rather see more compelling non conference matchups than a 9th game against another SEC school.
plenty of people care if you never play someone from your conference that often. I agree with more compelling OOC AQ games but I would also rather see less lower FBS games and one more conference game. remember, in a 6-1-1 format, you play the same 7 teams every year, and you play the other 6 teams twice every 12 years. that means that you will only visit their stadium once in twelve years and that they will only visit yours once in twelve years. not exactly ideal.
travis b you are absolutely correct there every 12 years to visit that stadium is a joke and then every 6 years to meet that team once either home or away another 6 to see them again not ideal at all, plus the ooc games if not big games will hurt once they start the playoff system and also the SEC network and sponsors will want another SEC game to make more revenue a Florida vs Idaho is not a money maker nor is Georgia vs Troy if you look at Big 10 Pac 12 and even Big 12 they play more conference games either now or starting in 15 the ACC is still at 8 but they are not a premier football conference as BIG 10 or Big 12 Pac 12 Sec area now they are great in Basketball but football only few teams are elite in that conference most are middle of the pack. and I think now that the SEC has the network things will change in number of games played and also more teams added to league down the road its just a matter of time
SEC in 2013 had Vandy and Missouri playing cross division rivalry games at home…So they had to make sure in 2014 that each side played every rivalry games at home and the other cross division game on the road.
actually missouri’s cross division is Texas A&M until next year when it becomes arkansas and then A&M gets South Carolina and also really A&M and LSU playing on thanksgiving day and what about the battle for the golden boot (LSU vs ARKANSAS) really SEC you ruined the most important Rivalry on our schedule to replace it with our “new ” cross division rival missouri the same weekend I FEEL ROBBED
Will they move a game to the Friday after Thanksgiving?
Yes, will probably happen later in the season.
LSU and Texas A&M will play on Thanksgiving for 2014 to give the SEC a big game like BIG 12 has with Texas & TCU to replace Texas and A&M but they will have something on day after Thanksgiving I am sure for their new SEC network.
The SEC had a competitive highly rated game each year with the Thanksgiving game between Arkansas vs. LSU. That game always beat out the Iron Bowl game between Alabama and Auburn for that national broadcast spot with CBS. I think LSU’s part in changing to Texas A&M was wishing to get out of that all too regular tail whipping Arkansas gave them on Thanksgiving. One season is not going to get it done. Texas A&M is going to have to step up big time to fill Arkansas’ shoes in that Thanksgiving game. They can not settle back into the type roll they had in the Big 12.
really A&M and LSU playing on thanksgiving day and what about the battle for the golden boot (LSU vs ARKANSAS) really SEC you ruined the most important Rivalry on our schedule to replace it with our “new ” cross division rival missouri the same weekend
Looks like playing Arkansas at the schools’ respective stadiums wasn’t as attractive to LSU (and the SEC office) as LSU and A&M playing in Dallas each year. I understand it, but I don’t like it. The only thing Arkansas can do about it is to beat LSU and A&M and help make their game in Dallas irrelevant. :) WPS!
I have been at 3 of the GOLDEN BOOT games in my life the triple OT game in 2007 50 to 48 arkansas (lsu was #1) , the 2008 game Arkansas won 31 – LSU 30 after a forth and 1 td pass with 22 seconds to go and 2010 when the #12 razorbacks beat the #5 lsu tigers 31 to 23
Once again Alabama gets there free pass. Has anyone looked at their line up for this year? The play two teams that had a winning record in the SEC last year. A&M and LSU. I’m not saying that they aren’t good, but give me a break.
To Tyler Volz: yes Bama and Tenn are for now permanent rivals cross division but with Notre Dame they are going to have to join some type of conference once the playoff system starts as it will not be as lucrative to play in a non conference and playing ACC games will water down the schedule from the likes of Stanford, Michigan, Purdue, USC, and Michigan State. They have dropped Michigan, and probably will do same with most of the others to accomodate the ACC schools. Their days as an independent is not going to be as good once the new system takes hold next year. They should have joined BIg 10 not ACC.
Having the LSU at A&M game scheduled for Thanksgiving night at College Station could be a possibility that the SEC West Championship could be at stake that night. But, let’s not forget Alabama is in that division, too. Mizzou and Arkansas on Thanksgiving weekend makes sense to me.
Mississippi State gets the award for softest non conference schedule with 3 cupcakes @ home including 0-12 Southern Miss, UAB, UT-Martin and a 2 hour road trip to highly rated South Alabama.
Special recognition is due Florida, making it 25 consecutive years without playing an out of conference game outside of the state of Florida. It must be a form of self imposed exile.
Florida’s last out-of-conference game outside of Florida was against Louisville in January. Florida’s last out-of-conference regular season game outside of Florida was against Syracuse in 1991. The latter trend, to which I think you are referring, is still not 25 years. If you’re going to throw around virtually meaningless information, at least be accurate.
If I were the florida athletic director or whoever controls the non conference scheduling I would cancel the games against idaho and eastern michigan so I can replace those two games with a really good power 5 conference team and miami florida because first of all florida should play miami fl and florida state every year no matter what and they need to beef up their non conference scheduling because starting in 2014 you got to have a really good non conference schedule if you want to be in the 4 team playoff
Is there an official rule, that every SEC Football member have to schedule a FCS school every season?
No there is no rule but the SEC should come down on schools that play OOC teams from fbs conferences and play power 5 conference teams as Jackson is right once 2014 rolls around you have to have not only good conference record but quality wins against good OOC opponents and the better the opponent the better chance the team has of making the playoffs
Which team is going to win the top game of the year in the SEC, Bama or Texas A & M?
Sir,
I have Purchased Tickets to the November 15,14 College Football Game Between MSU Vs
Alabama. Has the Game Time Been Set Yet.Or what will be The Start Game Time.
