By Kevin Kelley -

American Sports Network (ASN) will televise 30 Conference USA football games in 2014, conference commissioner Britton Banowsky announced today.

ASN, which launches this Fall, is owned and operated by Sinclair Broadcast Group.

From the release:

Sinclair owns and operates, programs and provides sales services to 162 television stations in 78 markets, reaching approximately 40 percent of U.S. television households. It includes FOX, ABC, CBS, MyTV, CW, NBC, Univision and Azteca affiliates. The agreement encompasses an extensive slate of live, local sporting events, including football, basketball, soccer and other sports with the opening of this year’s college football season. Their CBS, ABC and Fox stations will clear the big network game from a P5 over a CUSA game almost every time, The exception might be a teams local market. Otherwise I expect a lot of these games will wind up on digital subchannels which are available over the air, but not on cable or satellite.

Do you think some of these will get an ESPN3 broadcast or will this agreement make sure almost no one will be able to watch these games?

That’s hard to say, it depends on where you live. Here is the map of all the stations. http://www.sbgi.net/business/television.shtml As an example. in Birmingham WDBB and San Antonio KMYS are CW stations, so they will probably show the whole package. On the other hand, the station for Charleston/Huntington WV is an ABC station, so they will have the rights to both the ABC package of games. On week 1 for an example they can choose the CUSA gane Bethune Cookman at FIU at 7:00pm; or the ABC game Florida State V Oklahoma State. I am guessing they will go with the bigger game. In week 2 though, they might choose the CUSA game because the local team, Marshall is more interesting than whatever Prime Time game ABC has that night. i don’t know if WCHS has subchannels and if they are widely available in that area, but it is conceivable the bigger game could be on channel 8 and the lesser game (in their eyes) could be on channel 8.2.

We are seeing these games on our METV station, and i am not happy about it! I enjoy football as much as the next person, but my husband and i enjoy the Retro Westerns on the Saturday schedule of METV. Please get your own channels and leave METV alone!

I agree with Ms. Wanson. Please remove these games from METV and give me the regular Saturday evening schedule again! Besides if I wanted to watch College football I’d watch the better games.

I did contact WJAC in Johnstown and was told they had to show the games. This came down from their parent company, Sinclair broadcasting. That is my next email and phone call.

I also want my regular METV shows back. I have been calling Comcast complaining and they don’t know anything about it.

I too have been very disappointed to have METV Saturday evening programming replaced by ASN college football! Please leave Sci Fi Saturdays alone!

who cares about indietv and retrotv they are very unwatchable anyhow .METV ANTENNA AND COZI are untouchable but i wouldn’t mind if it were incorporate better for sport use to get rid of the latino packaging who needs that

call your provider down south i’m sure they will help you out Raycom and Sunshine Sports give the best down there

I’ve noticed there’s no listing for ASN in Los Angeles. Does the network provide a way to watch online? I’m trying to watch the UH v. Rice game on Oct. 4th.

who is this yoyo announcer on the MTSU vs Southern Miss game? come on man this isn’t grab a buddy , drink a couple beers and get a microphone. the guy cant speak without saying “right there”

I enjoyed the Nevada v Fresno State basketball game (1/24/15). It was on KAME channel 21.
After reseaching Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc, I placed an order for some of their stock at the market price. I hope there are more Mountain West games on channel 21.

What channel on DirectTv will the Harding University/OBU game Saturday, October 3rd at 11:00am be on?????????????????????????????????????
