The Youngstown State Penguins have released their 2020 football schedule, according to WFMJ-TV in Youngstown, Ohio.
Youngstown State will open the 2020 season on Saturday, Sept. 5 with an in-state visit to face the Akron Zips. The two schools have squared off 35 times, but not since a 24-10 Penguin win on the road in Athens in 1995.
Two more non-conference contests are up next as the Penguins host the Duquesne Dukes on Sept. 12 and the Eastern Kentucky Colonels on Sept. 19 at Stambaugh Stadium in Youngstown, Ohio.
Youngstown State’s Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) schedule begins on Sept. 26 with a visit from the North Dakota Fighting Hawks. YSU is also slated to host Indiana State (Oct. 17), Southern Illinois (Oct. 31), and Northern Iowa (Nov. 14).
The Penguins are scheduled to travel to play Missouri Valley foes Missouri State (Oct. 3), North Dakota State (Oct. 24), Western Illinois (Nov. 7), and South Dakota State (Nov. 21).
Below is the complete Youngstown State football schedule for the 2020 season:

Youngstown State finished the 2019 season 6-6 overall and 2-6 in Missouri Valley action. Under head coach Bo Pelini, the Penguins have finished with winning records twice since 2015, 12-4 in 2016 and 6-5 in 2017, and have one FCS Playoff appearance (lost in the 2016 championship).
It would be neat if YSU moved up to FBS and joined the MAC. I’d love to see the Akron-YSU series continue on an annual basis.
