The Virginia Military Institute Keydets will play at Kent State in 2021 and at Wake Forest in 2022, FBSchedules.com has learned.
Copies of both game contracts were obtained from the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) via a state Freedom of Information Act request.
VMI will travel to play Kent State at Dix Stadium in Kent, Ohio on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021. VMI will receive a $415,000 guarantee for the game, according to a copy of the contract and amendment.
The 2021 contest between VMI and Kent State will be their first-ever meeting on the gridiron.
On Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022, the Keydets will travel to face Wake Forest at BB&T Field in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Wake will pay VMI a guarantee of $380,000, per the copy of the contract.
VMI and Wake Forest first met on the gridiron in 1892 and last played in 1944. The Demon Deacons have won three straight and currently lead the overall series 3-2-2.
Wake Forest already had four non-conference games scheduled in 2022, so one of them will likely be moved to another season. Games scheduled for that season include at Vanderbilt (Sept. 10), vs. Liberty (Sept. 17), vs. Army (Oct. 8), and vs. Air Force (unknown date).
Football Schedules
Personal Foul, facemask, 15-yard penalty, automatic first down.
Curiously, Kent State draws higher attendance against FCS foes than they do against MAC opponents. Or maybe not so curiously as their MAC games are often on Tues. or Wed. nights.
