The UCF Knights and the Oklahoma Sooners are close to finalizing a home-and-home football series, UCFSports.com has reported.
The series would begin next year at Bright House Networks Stadium in Orlando. UCF would then travel to Norman to face Oklahoma in 2013. The games would be the first ever between the two schools.
In 2012, UCF is currently slated to travel to Akron and Ohio State and host Florida International and Kansas State. However, UCFSports.com also reports that Kansas State intends to buy out of the 2012 game with the Knights. The imminent cancellation of that game opened the door for negotiations with the Sooners.
Oklahoma’s only non-conference game scheduled for 2012 is Notre Dame. They were set to face TCU, but that will now be a conference game since the Horned Frogs are joining the Big 12.
Football Schedules:
You might have been good last year UCF, but scheduling against Ohio State and Oklahoma, not so smart….
Normally I would agree with “unknown” but getting a home and away with Oklahoma is a pretty rare animal from a CUSA team so I think UCF did the right thing…..
I just wish BYU could get a one and one with Oklahoma…..
This series is contingent on WVU playing in the Big12 in 2012. KSU is currently on UCF’s schedule. KSU will play at UCF if WVU fails to join the Big12 next season and the Wildcats need a fourth OOC game. If WVU joins the Big12 in 2012, KSU will drop UCF and OU will step in.
It may be a given to most folks that WVU will play in the Big12 next season…and this may be true, but series’ like this are not getting signed because the WVU/BE agreement has yet to be reached.
