The UAB Blazers and the New Mexico State Aggies have scheduled a home-and-home football series for 2020 and 2025, both schools announced on Tuesday.
In the first game of the series, UAB will New Mexico State at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama, on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020. The Blazers will then travel to face the Aggies at Aggie Memorial Stadium in Las Cruces, New Mexico, on Sept. 6, 2025.
The 2020 contest will mark the first-ever meeting between UAB and New Mexico State on the gridiron.
New Mexico State is the third announced non-conference opponent for UAB for the 2020 season. The Blazers are also slated to play at Miami (FL) on Sept. 19 and at in-state rival South Alabama on Sept. 26.
A contest at home against Akron on Sept. 13 is the only other non-conference contest currently scheduled for UAB in 2025.
New Mexico State, an FBS Independent, has now tentatively completed their 2020 football schedule. The road game at UAB joins trips previously scheduled for New Mexico State at UCLA, UTEP, Hawaii, Fresno State, UMass, and Florida.
Home contests in 2020 for NMSU include Akron, New Mexico, Texas State, Louisiana, and Texas Southern. Under NCAA rules, the Aggies can schedule a 13th game in 2020 if they desire since they play at Hawaii.
UAB is the second known non-conference opponent for New Mexico State in 2025. NMSU’s only other opponent is their annual contest against rival New Mexico in Albuquerque.
UAB is scheduled to open the 2019 season on Thursday, Aug. 29 at home against the Alabama State Hornets. New Mexico State begins their season two days later on Saturday, Aug. 31 at the Washington State Cougars.
