The Marshall Thundering Herd will play at the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in 2022, Marshall Director of Athletics Mike Hamrick announced Monday.
Marshall will take on Notre Dame at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana, on Sept. 10, 2022. The game will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
“Notre Dame is one of the most prestigious programs in all of college football and a trip to South Bend, Indiana, should be on every fan’s bucket list,” Hamrick said. “Notre Dame is very selective when it comes to football scheduling, but Marshall’s national brand, history and passionate fan base made us an appealing addition to their home schedule.
“We look forward to the trip and the opportunity to showcase our football program on national television and in one of the most iconic venues college football has to offer.”
Notre Dame is the second scheduled non-conference opponent for Marshall in 2022. The Thundering Herd are scheduled to host the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Sept. 17, which is the week following the game at Notre Dame.
The Fighting Irish now have nine games scheduled for the 2022 season. Notre Dame is slated to open the 2022 season at home on Sept. 3 against the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Home games for Notre Dame in 2022 include the newly scheduled Marshall contest, Stanford (Oct. 15), Clemson (Nov. 5), and Boston College (date TBA). In addition to Ohio State, the Fighting Irish are scheduled to visit Navy (Oct. 22; site TBD), USC (Nov. 26), North Carolina (date TBA), and Syracuse (date TBA).
Football Schedules
I wish ND would honor its written commitment/promise to play BYU. Are they afraid of BYU in Provo? Does their word mean ANYTHING?
Did the Marshall AD really say this with a straight face: “Notre Dame is very selective when it comes to football scheduling, but Marshall’s national brand, history and passionate fan base made us an appealing addition to their home schedule.”
Notre Dame is buying a home win. They could buy a home win from many Universities and they chose you.
We Are Marshall.
Well put Tom!
