Marshall at FIU football game postponed due to COVID-19

By Kevin Kelley -

The Marshall Thundering Herd at FIU Panthers football game scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 31 has been postponed, it was announced on Tuesday.

The game was postponed due to novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) issues at FIU. The game will be rescheduled for a later date, per the FIU release.

The action follows Conference USA COVID-19 guidelines, which require a threshold for the game to be played safely. The shortage is due to quarantining of COVID-19 positive tests and contact tracing, as well as injuries.

Marshall (5-0) is currently ranked 19th by the Associated Press and 18th in the Amway/USA Today Coaches Poll. The Thundering Herd have recorded victories over Eastern Kentucky, Appalachian State, Western Kentucky, Louisiana Tech, and Florida Atlantic.

The next scheduled contest for the Thundering Herd is Saturday, Nov. 7 at home against the UMass Minutemen.

FIU is 0-3 so far this season following losses to Liberty, Middle Tennessee, and Jacksonville State. The Panthers’ next contest is slated for Saturday, Nov. 7 at the UTEP Miners.

FIU is afraid of getting curb stomped and took the chicken’s way out. Come to Huntington, play at a neutral site, we were coming to your stadium Friday night (I guess the beating you took from Jacksonville State…..you kinda took it to heart)…..you guys are no more honorable than Rice and ODU……..gutless cowards!! Conference USA will do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to help Marshall or UAB (looking at you Rice). This league is the BIGGEST JOKE for a D-1 conference with absolutely ZERO leadership. Marshall…….get out of that Mickey Mouse conference (sorry Mickey….it was an insult to you referencing you with C-USA). If you’re afraid of Marshall…….get a watchdog.

This situation of Rice, FIU postponing (OK……let’s call it what it really is……..blatant cowardliness). FIU (who got curb-stomped by Jacksonville State) sees Marshall coming in……knows that they have little or no chance……plays the Rice and ODU card……COVID-19 (or should I say COVID”-23″……the point spread for the game……err, I mean supposed game). Hey, if you are afraid of Marshall……get a watchdog!!!! Now, as for C-USA leadership……THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NONE!!! They will DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for UAB or Marshall. SPINELESS and a COMPLETE JOKE!!! Marshall, get out of that Mickey Mouse conference (oh….I’m sorry Mickey…..it is an “insult to you” comparing you to C-USA’s leadership, Rice, FIU and yes, even you ODU). The whole situation is one gigantic dumpster fire……watch for the next few weeks……NOTHING will be done (by C-USA for Marshall) to help schedule ANY makeup games whatsoever……..By the way FBS Schedules…..C-USA has a league rule that to qualify for the championship game you must have 6 conference games. Marshall (with FIU’s postponement/cancellation), now has only 5……….Watch and see how C-USA will use that rule to “screw the pooch” (Marshall) out of a possible championship appearance……MARK IT DOWN!!!
