The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and the SMU Mustangs have scheduled a home-and-home football series for 2021 and 2023, both schools announced on Tuesday.
In the first game of the series, Louisiana Tech will host SMU at Joe Aillet Stadium in Ruston on Sept. 18, 2021. The Bulldogs will then travel to face the Mustangs at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas on Sept. 2, 2023.
The two schools are slated to meet in the 2017 DXL Frisco Bowl at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. The game is set for Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 8:00pm ET on ESPN.
Louisiana Tech and SMU first met on the gridiron in 2001 and have played a total of four times. The Bulldogs won the most recent meeting 41-10 back in 2004 to extend their series lead to 3-1.
LA Tech is slated to open the 2021 season at Mississippi State on Sept. 4 and then host Baylor on Sept. 11. The Bulldogs need one additional non-conference game to complete their 2021 schedule.
In 2023, the Bulldogs are scheduled to host Bowling Green on Sept. 30 and have two non-conference openings.
SMU now has three non-conference games scheduled for 2021 and two for 2023. The Mustangs are slated to host Abilene Christian on Sept. 4 and North Texas on Sept. 11 in 2021, and will host North Texas again on Sept. 9, 2023.
