The Georgia Southern Eagles have added games against the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs (2021) and The Citadel Bulldogs (2023) to their future football schedules, the school announced on Wednesday.
Georgia Southern will host Gardner-Webb at Paulson Stadium in Statesboro on on Sept. 4, 2021. The game will be only the second meeting between the two schools.
In their first meeting on the gridiron in 2002, Georgia Southern defeated Gardner-Webb 52-0.
Gardner-Webb is a member of the Big South Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Runnin’ Bulldogs are 2-6 this season following a 1-10 season in 2017.
The Citadel will travel to take on Georgia Southern at Paulson Stadium on Sept. 2, 2023. The two schools have met 24 times on the gridiron and the Eagles currently hold a 19-5 record in the series.
The Citadel competes in the Southern Conference of the Football Championship Subdivision. The Bulldogs are 2-5 this season after finishing their 2017 campaign 5-6.
The addition of Gardner-Webb and The Citadel tentatively completes Georgia Southern’s non-conference schedules in both 2021 and 2023. In 2021, Georgia Southern’s other three games are at Arkansas (Sept. 18), at Florida Atlantic (Sept. 25), and home vs. BYU (Nov. 20).
In 2023, the Eagles are slated to host UAB (Sept. 9) and travel to both Wisconsin (Sept. 16) and Ball State (Sept. 23).
