Georgia & New Mexico add Southern to Future Football Schedules

By Kevin Kelley -

Georgia and New Mexico have each added a game against the Southern Jaguars to their future football schedules, TheAdvocate.com has reported.

Both games are currently tentative, however, as they were scheduled by Southern football coach Stump Mitchell. The school is currently without an athletics director. Southern Chancellor James Llorens will have to “sign off on it.”

Georgia is slated to host Southern on September 5, 2015 at Sanford Stadium in Athens. New Mexico will host the Jaguars during the 2012 season. An exact date is to be determined.

Southern, a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision, has never faced Georgia or New Mexico in football.

Southern has every right to complain now that LSU has scheduled Towson for 2012. Gone is LSU’s only-strong-FCS-programs argument. If a BCS program is going to schedule a FCS opponent, it should at least make it a regional school and/or perrenial FCS power.
