The final set of College Football Playoff Rankings for the 2020 season have been released by the selection committee, and Alabama finishes ranked first.
The Alabama Crimson Tide were ranked first in every set of rankings released by the selection committee this season. Alabama defeated the seventh-ranked Florida Gators on Saturday in the SEC Championship Game, 52-46, and claimed the top spot heading into the playoff.
The Clemson Tigers crushed Notre Dame 34-10 to win the ACC Championship and moved up to the No. 2 spot, while Ohio State, which defeated Northwestern 22-10 to win the Big Ten Championship, moved up one spot to No. 3.
Notre Dame dropped two spots to No. 4, holding off the Texas A&M Aggies (5th) and Oklahoma Sooners (6th) for the last spot in the College Football Playoff semifinals.
In those semifinals, Alabama will take on Notre Dame at the Rose Bowl Game in Arlington, Texas, while Clemson will battle Ohio State in the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, La. Both games are slated for New Year’s Day (Friday, Jan. 1, 2021).
Rounding out the top ten in the final College Football Playoff Rankings are Florida (7th), Cincinnati (8th), Georgia (9th), and Iowa State (10th).
No. 8 Cincinnati finished as the highest ranked team from a Group of Five conference. That earned them a bid to the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl to face No. 9 Georgia.
