East Carolina University announced this week that they have added Appalachian State to their 2009 college football schedule. The game will be played at ECU and the contract for the series is only this one game.
The East Carolina Pirates and Appalachian State Mountaineers have played 29 times in a series that began back on November 26, 1932. The Mountaineers won the first matchup 21-0. Although the Pirates have dominated lately, winning 7 of the last 9 games, the Mountaineers hold the lead in the overall series 19-10.
Other non-conference games in 2009 for East Carolina include at West Virginia, at North Carolina and home against Virginia Tech.
