The College Football Playoff has set makeup dates for the two semifinal games and the College Football Playoff National Championship, if necessary, ESPN reported on Wednesday.
The College Football Playoff Semifinals at the Rose Bowl Game and the Allstate Sugar Bowl are both currently scheduled for New Year’s Day (Friday, Jan. 1, 2021).
If the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic causes both games to be postponed, the Rose Bowl Game will be played on Monday, Jan. 11 and the Allstate Sugar Bowl will be played on Tuesday, Jan. 12. If only one semifinal game is postponed, it would be played on Monday, Jan. 11.
The scheduled makeup date for the College Football Playoff National Championship is Monday, Jan. 18. The game is currently slated to be played at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla., on Monday, Jan. 11, but would be pushed back if one or both semifinal games are delayed.
“Everyone is planning to play the games as scheduled,” CFP executive director Bill Hancock told ESPN on Wednesday. “The teams, schools’ staffs and bowl staffs have been working really hard to provide an opportunity for the players. COVID procedures are in place at hotels and stadiums. We have prepared thoroughly, and we are ready. But it always makes sense to be prepared, even for circumstances we don’t believe will happen.”
