The 2020 Sun Belt Championship Game is set with the No. 12 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers hosting the No. 19 Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. The game will be played on Saturday, Dec. 19 at Brooks Stadium in Conway, S.C.
Coastal Carolina and Louisiana met earlier this season on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at Cajun Field in Lafayette, La. The Chanticleers emerged victorious in that contest, 30-27, which was televised nationally by ESPN.
Coastal Carolina clinched the Sun Belt East Division title after finishing 8-0 in conference play (11-0 overall), ahead of the Appalachian State Mountaineers (7-2 SBC). This will mark the first-ever Sun Belt Championship Game appearance for the Chanticleers.
The Ragin’ Cajuns clinched the West Division of the Sun Belt Conference with a 7-1 record (9-1 overall), which was four games better than the second-place South Alabama Jaguars. Louisiana previously won the Sun Belt championship in 2005 and 2013, but is 0-2 in the Sun Belt Championship Game following consecutive losses to Appalachian State in 2018 and 2019.
Brett McMurphy of Stadium currently projects Coastal Carolina to play the Marshall Thundering Herd in the Cure Bowl, while Louisiana is projected to play the Buffalo Bulls in the Camellia Bowl.
